Derek Corr has journeyed the music route for many years now and has visited and adopted some unforgiving and unforgettable experiences. Developing his appetite at a young age in Limerick and expanding to the Dublin scene at a later stage he has enraptured many an Irish audience. By exposing his talents he has, like so many corporate companies, encircled himself with what can only be described as a force field to be reckoned with.
After relocating to Madrid in 2004, he approached his now clean canvas with rootless visions. This time it was going to happen. This time is now. Derek’s song writing skills are not learned nor have they been passed on, they are a gift which he has been developing since he could talk. Never feeling boxed in by any particular genre of music has left almost all writing avenues open for exploration. Derek has experimented with many instrumentalists and even felt that some of them may have been the ones.
That was soon to change however. Derek discovered the vast resources and talents of Doppler studios in Madrid where a friendship between Alberto Caballero was to unleash the contents of his head. Alberto is quoted in saying that “it was a whole new direction for us, a passion never felt in the studio before that day. We had to give this a try. He treated us as if we were members of the band”. Before long, tracks were beginning to explode into life and the decision to record an album was made.
The audio net was now expanding but another rung of the ladder was about to fall into place. Unexpectedly two of the members decided they wanted to spread their wings and went off to follow their own paths, leaving Derek musician-less . Weeks prior to this Derek had met Drew Kennedy through a social networking site. Drew has played with many Irish bands over his career. Upon hearing his bass player ordeal he volunteered his services, only problem being Drew was living in Ireland and Derek had already booked a gig in one of Madrid‘s many “Salas“. Drew explains “this wasn’t a problem, the airplane has been invented and from what I had heard I was not going to miss an opportunity like this“.
The challenge had been set for Drew, learn the set, fly to Madrid, do the gig. Drew attains an A+. It is like he had been a band member for years and returns to Ireland. By now Derek had become friends with many musicians which came to his aid in finishing the album. However, when Drew suggested that he would embrace the services of one said Ricky Ryan, drummer extraordinaire (and yes he too is based in Ireland) the trio that is now blancatransfer seemed to be almost near completion.
The second challenge was set, Drew contacted his very close friend and ex band member Andy Keane of Blueroom Studios and asked if he would be interested in organizing a mini tour of Ireland for the band on conditions he also mixed the gig. Andy pulls out the stops and arranges 3 back to back dates… Task 2 has been set. Drew and Ricky take to regular visits to Blueroom Studios and under the guidance of Andy begin the ordeal of learning a set without a front man. The band is fully assembled the eve before the tour in a 2hr rehearsal at the studio. These 2hrs are where Derek discovers that this is it now! Not then! Not ever before! But now! A passion developes between the trio that engulfs what music and being a musician is all about. No calculations, no “we should do this” and no formulas. Fluid sonic bliss. The next stage was to see what would happen when you add a couple of thousand watts of power to the menu at the hands of Andy K. Each gig went with military precision and they played as if they had done this for years. They sounded and looked at ease. The engineering skills of Andy k delivered an intensity in the music experience adding dimension and the stadium experience.
Andy was to be the next victim of the Derek Corr sonic boom kidnapping spree. Derek’s next mission was to bring this to Madrid. The date and the venue were set and if you missed it? Well then, I’m sorry but you shouldn’t miss the next.
blancatransfer’ debut album “The experiment that is our lives” will be on the market by the end of the year.
Andy Keane sums it up
“When you embrace all that is good around you on all levels and you open your mind and collaborate with others you learn that forward is the only way but this is a unity and we must be open and sincere. This is easy when your have a crew around you like this”………………………This is blancatransfer
