Established in late 2007 by Chimera Productions, Blank Canvas is a bi-monthly ‘club’ night reputed for its eclectic contemporary classical and experimental music programming, which pays no heed to classical music convention.
Some of the artists who have stamped their mark across Blank Canvas gigs include: Sean O’Hagan (High Llamas frontman & Stereolab collaborator), Leafcutter John (of Mercury Award-nominated Polar Bear), Jack Liebeck (Classical Brit Award-nominee), Elysian Quartet, Plaid (Warp Records veterans), Powerplant, Gabriel Prokofiev (Nonclassical), Shlomo and Max de Wardener (Accidental Records).

Keeping the Blank Canvas philosophy of pioneering new music central to the programme, forthcoming season highlights include legendary sound artist Scanner, Jon Hopkins; electro-acoustic artist highly regarded for three beautifully-crafted albums and his work on Coldplay’s Viva La Vida and members of the world-renowned London Sinfonietta. They will all be involved in special one-off collaborations unique to Blank Canvas.

Dear friends, I am playing a free gig at the beauteous Union Chapel, Islington this Saturday. The sunlight will be streaming through its vaulted windows as Blank Canvas and Arctic Circle present this gig during the blessed daylight hours of 12-2. And yea shall it's hallowed interior be filled with all manner of scraping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Let us pray. And then let us go to the pub.
