What is Homelessness? watch video

Blanket-A-Human wants to educate you as to what homelessness is and how it affects you. This video explains how people become homeless, and debunks myths about the problem.

We take you onto the streets to interview a homeless woman who explains her life as a homeless mother.

Note: This video first aired on the internet in November of 2006. A couple months afterwards, a family contacted us to help find their son that was on the video. He has since been reunited with his family.

First Annual Blanket-A-Human Blanket Pass Out watch video

Follow along with us as we hit the streets. This is from our first annual Blanket Drive, where we collected over a thousand blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, toiletries, underwear, food items, etc.

We hit the streets with pickup truckloads of goods, and within a matter of 15 minutes, every item was passed out.

To see the joy on the faces of children when receiving these items makes every effort worthwhile.

De La Soul/Blanket-A-Human present Xmas in July watch video

Blanket-A-Human threw a benefit party and brought out De La Soul to perform live for hundreds of supporters.

This was a great way to connect with other young party-goers and to inform them of the reality of the homeless problem in the community.

San Diego Firestorm: Please Help - NEW VIDEO watch video

Southern California recently faced a tough firestorm. Thousands of homes were lost, over half a million acres of land scorched, and thousands of people were misplaced and became homeless.

This video was put together to inform others of the problem that Southern Californians faced at the time.

Airdate: October 2007

There is a lack of education about the homeless community all across the United States. The issue is very apparent but it seems that people are afraid of the problem and overlook it because of the lack of education of both the circumstance and also the solution.

What started out as the thought of gathering blankets for the homeless during the holiday season quickly turned into a much more powerful force. A group of young individuals started Blanket-A-Human merely to create an awareness of the reality of homelessness and to bring a new generation of individuals together to spark a change and attract people to want to contribute to the solution.

An example of how Blanket-A-Human interacts with the homeless community is through our annual Blanket Drives. We feel that gathering and passing out blankets during the cold holiday season helps to teach our community about the growing crisis. We strive to bring humility to the volunteers involved in the pass-out, as well as give hope to those that are in need. Through these experiences, many of our volunteers’ eyes have been opened to finding humility in themselves, as well as in the faces of those they’ve helped.

The structure of our unique non-profit organization allows us to positively impact homelessness in more ways than just our Blanket Drives. Members contribute by:

  • reaching out through events and/or promotions
  • participating in community outreach benefits
  • collaborating/creating programs to aid the homeless
  • donating to other non-profit organizations
  • volunteering at benefits/charity events
  • educating the community about homelessness

Blanket-A-Human was established to help contribute to other organizations, as well as to cultivate our own, through charitable events for raising funds and bringing awareness to our generation.

In October 2006, a group of young individuals started Blanket-A-Human to create an awareness of the reality of homelessness in the surrounding community. It was also the goal of these young individuals to bring their generation together to spark a change, attract others - through influence and examples of selflessness - in order to create that change.

Blanket-A-Human’s vision is to create a resourceful network and outlet for people to get involved in their community - to build the fibers of those individuals into strong threads to eventually weave a blanket around the world to aid the homeless.

The word “homelessness” isn’t just used to describe people that live on the streets. Homelessness refers to the condition of people who lack fixed housing or a personal residence. The individual can be staying in hotels, overcrowded conditions and/or shelters - and still be considered homeless.

Someone can become homeless for many reasons, some of which include: being evicted by a landlord; losing a job; health-related issues; problems in a relationship/marriage; a disaster such as fire, earthquake, flooding, etc.

"Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others....they send forth a ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." - Robert F. Kennedy

Have a great week. All I ask of myself is to be better then last week. A better father, a better husband, a better fighter, a better cook, a better boss. If I do that maybe the world will be a better place, or just maybe the 5 voices in my head will stop yelling for attention.

TRIGGONOMICS when you need the music in the club to be louder then the voices in your head.
