Influences
Diverse (see our individual MySpaces!)... but including incidental film music, early Manics, The Pixies, The Clash, Muse, The Smiths, The Cramps, The Stranglers, The Velvet Underground, Suede, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Ani diFranco.
Bath-based Blank Franks have deconstructed the guitar rock idiom and now offer its constituent parts in stainless steel trays, selling it by the pound. Hypnotic drums, driving bass and choppy riffs dominate the soundtrack to the film in your head: a double-feature filmed on the dark side of town where neurosis embraces clarity and where triumph and despair live and die cheek by jowl. It’s a pointless existence played out in after-hours dives, and this is the music that tells you it’s OK to stay and watch. This is the sound of lives going astray. Blank Franks are the messengers of your doom and your destruction. Attitude. Shapes. Guaranteed.
REVIEW of Moles gig, 28th June 07 (James Harker):
"Unbilled, but nevertheless excellent, ‘Blank Franks' exemplify the Pulp tradition of giving lowest-billing to the evening's superior band. ‘Blank Franks' are very much superior. Danny Stuart is a charismatic frontman, in the vein of Elvis and Morrissey (check out his jawbone), with a catalogue of self-patented dance moves and a knack for alluringly alliterative song titles. Johnny Frank has invented his own percussive guitar style which acts as a common theme in all of their songs, a stamp of originality asserted with refreshing simplicity. His self-restraint leaving enough open space in the music to convey tension and mystery."
And the lowdown... from people who matter:
"You rocked last night. I mean frickin ROCKED" - Big Issue benefit gigs bloke
"Your last gig was F%*^ing awesome" - Karmadeva
"The Franks performed brilliantly last night, with glamour and style" - James Venus Bogardus
"You guys are sick" - Ash R (LA it-girl)
"You guys are cool" - Red Light Go
"Yeah...it's like early Lagwaggon meets The Darkness" - some random punter with exquisite musical references, Glastonbury
"The Franks strutted some groovy rock down here" - Cafe Wunderbar
"You guys did a wicked show; really polished" - JJ Stanness
Hey Stu. Thanks for getting in touch mate. Long time no see. Hope all is totally fabulous in the world of Blank Franks. And yes, I have started a new band. Tiz I on those keyboard thingies, Mark,( Ex RLG Guitar) Ireson, Matt,(Ex RLG on Drums and electronic percussion) and Marks wife Jane on vocals. We're writing like mad and it does sound rather tuneful!!!! We are called Nine Volt Leap and hope to set up a MySpace page with some soundbites pretty soon. I'm also colaberating with Matt and other musicians on a project called Karbon. A live dance/ Drum & Bass set where it'll be completely improvised music for an hour or so and featuring a DJ or two as well. Should be a blast!! Hope to come and see you all soon bud. Take care and keep those trousers shiny!!!!

Looking on the bright side of today - we got some ideas/gigs sorted out, Low Frequency Colin is still alive and... did anyone else notice how exceptionally tasty those egg & bacon muffins were?

I hate to be a disappointment but I wasn't thinking of wearing those particular trousers. I shall, of course, be wearing trousers of some description - just not those ones. I trust my sartorial decision in no way hinders your enjoyment of the Blank Franks experience!!
