About me:

Born in a little town named Soplaviento. Lived in Cartagena de Indias – Colombia (South America) all my life. Cartagena is a beautiful city on the caribbean sea, so much visited for tourist from so much nationalities. I’m graduated from the University of Cartagena in laws. I like to paint, art in general, playing clarinet, sax, drums and piano. I sing and I have a band with my father. It's an orchestra that play latin music like merengues, salsa, cuban music and colombian music. I have too a dances group. It’s magnific. I have visited some countries around the world showing the my country’s folk. I’m teacher in high school and the college. I'm married. I have one daughter she is eight years old. I'm a sinceril friend. I speak english a little bit. I need to learn more. I like to meet so much people and to visit countries around the world. I believe in god and I believe in his wonders.
De mi hay mucho que contar. Intentaré resumir. Nací en un pequeño pueblo del departamento de Bolívar llamado Soplaviento. De aquí han surgido grandes artístas que han enriquecido la música colombiana. Entre ellos está mi abuelo Clímaco Sarmiento (su padre Pedro le enseñó a tocar clarinete), quien fue el primero en grabar salsa en Colombia, ha compuesto temas importantes como La Vaca Vieja, El Zuñigazo, Pie Pelúo; por mecionar algunos. Aunque mi padre Blas "Michi" Sarmiento no es de Soplaviento, fue criado allí y ha contribuído a la música colombiana con temas y arreglos interpretados por Juan Carlos coronel, Joe Arroyo, Nando Pérez, etc. Mi padre también hizo lo suyo con la salsa haciéndola popular por todo el país. Mucha gente desconoce este dato histórico. Piensan que la salsa colombiana empezó en Cali pero la verdad es que fue en Cartagena.
Con ese compromiso de seguir con la tradición de los "Sarmiento", mi padre me enseñó a tocar saxofón y con otros profesores aprendí clarinete, batería, canto y piano. Toda mi vida he vivido aquí en Cartagena de Indias y me he dedicado a rescatar y difundir el folclor de mi país. Estudié leyes en la Universidad de Cartagena como una manera de ayudar a los músicos en asesorias legales en lo referente a Derechos de Autor. Aunque actualmente solo estoy dedicado al folclor y a la música popular con mi grupo de danzas folclóricas AfroColombia, e integrando la orquesta de mi padre "Michi Sarmiento y su orquesta". Gracias al folclor colombiano, he tenido la oportunidad de visitar varios paises: Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, Trinidad y Tobago, Panamá, Costa Rica, Estados Unidos, Portugal, España, Francia, Italia, Bulgaria, Polonia y Marruecos. Países que agradezco la gran aceptación que tuvieron por el folclor colombiano. Estoy casado con Verena Leiva y tengo una hija llamada María Eugenia que gracias a Dios sigue con la vena artística. Dios es el eje de toda mi vida y a él le agradezco todo lo que tengo y he conseguido. A él todo le debo.
