Bleeding Claret and Blue (West Ham Cup Final Song 2006)
When we first fell in love, it was a cold Wednesday night / The floodlights wrapped their arms around me... / On rented beer crate, with silk scarf and best mate / It felt just like heaven, not Bromley / There's been some sweet years, and a fair share of tears / You can break my heart like an old lover / But it still beats in time with the old District line / Upton Park you're my soul and my brother
I know fortune's always hiding / But sometimes our dreams they come true / Here's to John and Ron and Mooro / All our Captains....Bleeding Claret and Blue
Oh, The Claret and Blue
We're on our way to the Cup Final / A Hammer Strike, a Harewood smile / The Academy's the place to be for style
I said, we're on our way to the cup final / 26 years, been quite awhile / So lets all sing a song.. for Johnny Lyall
We'll all do the Pardew Shuffle / As the gaffer leads us out the tunnel / When Zamora scores, we'll be singing Bubbles
From NYC to Copenhagen / The world's a cockney... Mr Fagin / There'll be a knees-up mother brown in every pub and station
When The ball hit Trevor on the head / And Wembley sang that Westham led / We didn't need a second invitation
And Bonzo climbed the Royal Steps / William Hill paid out the bets / The Irons' Roars were heard across the nation
We're on our way to the Cup Final / 26 years, it's been a while / I've been dreaming of this day since I was a child
Then we'll all sing a marching tune / Yossi Yossi Benayoun / and Anton does the jig with Reo-Coker
We're on our way to the Cup Final / We'll turn it on East London style / Thank you Pardew... and here's to Johnny Lyall
You'll have to foul us 'cos you cant play us / We are the great entertainers /Yes, we are the famous Claret and Blue
And our fortunes always hiding /But sometimes our dreams they come true / Best, Hurst, Peters, and Dicks and the Boys of 86' / All the legends in the Claret and Blue
And our fortune's always hiding / But there's one thing my heart knows is true / Here's to John and Ron and Mooro / Watching over...all us Claret and Blue....
(ALL current West Ham players names are then named through the repeating choruses from Shaka Hislop through Kyle Reid.)
And the Boys of 64, 65, ...and 66! / And 1975, and 1980....

After the heartbreak of the Cup Final loss, we decided to let the song
'Bleeding Claret and Blue' rest, as we healed our wounds from yet
another close call with glory. But this season's almost surrealistic
catalogue of disasters and misfortunes made us even more acutely aware
of the fact that reaching the Cup Final was a tremendous achievement,
and one that we should hold even closer to our hearts in the light of
the current desperate plight we find ourselves in...
That day at Cardiff is a wonderful bitter-sweet memory now, and with
West Ham fans being the best in the world, and known for their great
sense of gallows-like
humour when the chips are down, and the chips ARE down, we thought it
fitting, appropriate and downright twisted to get the song out there
now- as a souvenir of a great day out, better times ahead, and a
reminder that West Ham fans will always be there for the club-We are
not fairweather fans- We are the most passionate supporters in the
land.... If we're going down, let's go down singing...
I know fortune's always hiding
But there's one thing my heart knows is true
here's to John and Ron and Mooro
Watching over....all us Claret and Blue

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK CITY BAND RELEASES WEST HAM CUP FINAL SONG
'BLEEDING CLARET AND BLUE'(26 Years) SINGLE
LAUNCH/LISTENING PARTY
THURSDAY, MAY 11th, 2006
VIC NAYLOR's 6:30-9pm 38-40 St John St, Farringdon, London
NYC singer Joe Hurley has written and recorded a special song for West Ham Football Club celebrating their success in reaching the 2006 FA Cup Final. The song Bleeding Claret and Blue pays tribute to the manager and players of this season's squad, as well as legends like Bobby Moore, Billy Bonds, Clyde Best, and West Ham's recently deceased managers, Johnny Lyall and Ron Greenwood.
The song begins in ballad-form before building into a rousing sing-along that references Harewood's semi-final winner, Brooking's goal in the 1980 Final, Anton Ferdinand's dancing, and even a certain 'Pardew Shuffle'
The extended version of the song, included on the CD, actually names every player to appear for the Hammers this season!
Joe Hurley is a life-long West Ham fan who grew up in London watching the Hammers, and who for many years has been a NYC-based Recording Artist, with two bands, Rogue's March and The Gents. He has released several critically acclaimed CDs in the States, including his debut 'Never Fear' which was dedicated to Bobby Moore and features a song written about him ('When you Feel Like Crying') He has performed over one thousand concerts in The US and his West Ham scarf is often seen hanging from his microphone stand, spreading the good word.
Hurley also wrote and performed a one-man show 'The King of Upton Park' about a man obsessed, and in love with, all things West Ham. The show ran in both NYC and Boston, Mass.
Hurley's ballad 'Amsterdam Mistress' appears on the new SONY Records Compilation Essential Irish Drinking Songs and Singalongs. He has recorded with Tony Visconti and PJ Harvey, sung duets with Marianne Faithfull, Amy Rigby, and Shane MacGowan, and has toured with bands ranging from Flogging Molly to Cracker.
Hurley, who attended both Cardiff Play-Off Finals, will again be crossing the Atlantic to see West Ham play, this time in the Cup Final.
The single is available today through the band's website www.roguesmarch.com. Hurley flies in to London on Thursday and the Single will be available at Vic Naylor's on Thursday evening for the launch/listening party. It is hoped that the West Ham Club Shop will carry the CD and donate the proceeds to the Bobby Moore Cancer Fund.
The song was produced by Ian Hunter guitarist James Mastro. Backing vocals were supplied by the NYC Hammers. Because the song was written and recorded in the last few days, it is not yet available on i-tunes. Further info and lyrics are available at www.roguesmarch.com.
