b l e n d e r began in 2002 in exeter, when half of the jazz wolves dj collective witnessed, and were inspired by janek schaefer's turntable hell. david patrick myers and johnny dbini teamed up with the delayer and ciao bob carlos to create an evening of improvised soundscapes and abstract visuals that intrigued and terrified the small audience.
4 years later, and a number of sporadic shows and personnell changes, sees the project playing the experimentica festival at cardiff's chapter arts centre and gaining a red star recommendation from buzz magazine.
thing is: we don't use instruments, not in the traditional sense of a band that plays instruments. b l e n d e r soundscapes are made from all sorts of stuff: turntables, household appliances, electronic gadgets, fx pedals, power tools, sanded cds, samplers and laptops. each event is different, from a half-hour support slot to a 3-hour epic, but each one revolves around a core of artists reacting and responding to each other's input.
the 2 tunes: 'nice' and 'poison gasses' are taken from b l e n d e r live events, 'speak and blend' is an unedited recording of a battle between johnny dbini, a bent speak and spell and a delay pedal.
We would like to invite you! We want to make a video – so feel free telling us your opinion which song you like most or the one you would like being visualized…
Mr and Mrs Clark perfrom some cabaret at Clwb Ifor Bach on Sunday 29th April as part of Meltdown. On early at 8.20pm so if you are up for some surrealist Sundayness....come down and blend it up big. Also celebrating Marega's birthday!
Hey there, anyone seeing this and in the Brighton area should head down for what should be an amazing night of experimental music and general creativity. Hope to see you there.
Hey John. That video looks great, a bit less chaotic than the firtst blends maybe!?! Glad it went well. I'm shitting it about my gig, i hope it goes well. Anyway, peace out boyo and speak soon.
Wow! It's great to hear the first blender session up on your site - it was a great evening and a pleasure to work with you on it. Keep in touch, Dan (aka the delayer). x
i met mr wilson more than once --- elbows and knees and a hole in my trousers. but to feel the wind in my hair and the gravel embedded in my skin again.... happy days :-)
