David James is an Indie Hip-Hop Artist/Producer in Dunedin, FL. He was born at home on July 30, 1983 in Spokane County, WA, shortly thereafter moving with his family to Topeka, KS. He began recording audio clips, skits and mock radio shows around age 7 with his older brother Dan, on a small mono Boom Box that belonged to his mother. Over time, he gained experience recording with several other kinds of media such as Hand Held recorders (Both Digital and Analog), Computer based Recording software, and other low-budget audio devices. At age 11, he started rapping with his brother and a few of his friends, also experimenting with audio-looping, and music production. All of his first songs were composed entirely of goofy freestyled hooks and lyrics. He didn't begin writing serious songs until later on, in High School. He moved away from his home town when he was 18 years old and began a new life away from the influence of his family and friends, and his individuality took control. He began to focus entirely on his music, and began developing his style, and his skills as a producer, unknowingly preparing himself for a solid career as a sound engineer. David James opened Hassle Underground Studios and Blind Alley Productions (BAP) to public on Jan. 15, 2006, with the production of the Green Riders' song 'You Wanna.' The Starting rate was a modest $10/song, and he had built the studio with his bare hands in a garage-size unit in Rodger's Business Park (Largo, FL). The quality of production spoke for itself, and BAP's clientele list began to multiply exponentially through the summer of '06. The studio was dubbed "The Hot Box" by frequenting artists, because of the studio's lack of A/C and proper ventilation. In July of '06, David James started running BAP full time at $10/hr, barely surviving, Until October of '06, when he finally got an A/C unit, and upped the hourly rate to a still modest $15 trying to give a fair deal to the other local artists. He would carry on at $15 an hour until March of '07, at which time he raised the rates to $20, in order to save for new equipment. David James partnered up with Jody Dean (AKA Shamrock, Green Riders Ent.) and began doing local shows with him to promote their music shortly after the release of Green Riders Mixtape Vol. 1 in the summer of '06, and while he was working on production of his 2nd indie-release solo album, "Down a Blind Alley". David James joined Green Riders officially in February of '07, while still running BAP. David James now has Engineering and Production credits for over 1000 artists and over 10,000 songs created in Tampa Bay, in Pinellas and in surrounding Counties in Florida, and is a featured artist on over 100+ songs, aside from his 130+ solo tracks. His mission in music is to bring back the intelligence, lyrical content, and messages of Hip-Hop, without losing the charisma, swagger, and catchiness of new-age Rap and Pop. Eventually his business outgrew the spot in which it began, in the form of an eviction notice. The reason for eviction was "sound violations and parking violations" a fine indicator that the studio's clientele was expanding in excess of the park's limitations. In fact, before the studio finally closed at the end of May '08, it had been running 24 hours for a month and a half, full throttle. David James's recording studio reopened in Clearwater, FL with the assistance of a Tampa tattoo artist named Dobie and his company Unique Ink, but due to the poor economy and excessive travel time the studio closed after a couple short months. Dobie went on separately to open a Tatoo/Studio called Tats n Trax in Tampa. Luckily, a new upscale studio had recently opened in Largo and was in need of an experienced engineer. Rock-O Studio's owners were put in touch with David James, and the choice was quite simple: they had top of the line recording and mixing equipment, a big location close to home, Industrious clientele, a relaxed environment and a flexible work schedule - David James worked for Rocko for over a year, and gained prestigious clientele like 2 pistols and Young Joe, who made the song Lights Down Low (with DJ engineering) which aired on radio and in clubs worldwide. David James also recorded, edited and mixed the song Call on Me by Richie We$$ feat. Young Joe, which airs on radio stations across the US. Rocko eventually shut down and moved to Miami. David James is now enrolled in St. Petersburg College seeking a degree for Electronic Engineering. He works as a freelance audio engineer at any studio he is invited to, which has gained him experience in all types of recording environments from closet studios reminiscent of his earlier experiences to commercial studios like Springs Theatre Studio in Tampa. He has traveled as far as Chicago to do mixing and mastering work, and he also has his own recording studio at his home in Dunedin. For booking information and sound demos, call (727)644-4937.

That's wus up! Yeah, I knew u had moved to another studio but I didn't have a number or address. Sounds like u have been reeeal busy. Congrats on getting the music played on the radio. I haven't really been doing too much musically. I was in this group situation but it's not going anywhere so I left. Right now, I am trying to regroup and figure out what I want to do musically. I have a general idea of the type of music that I want to make. Now, I just have to find people that are on the same page as me and are serious about takin it somewhere. I'm focusing on school and directing choirs until I find those people. I'll make sure I stay in touch. who knows...maybe we will do a collaboration one of these days.
