Just popped in what I think is the best compilation of Blind Willies music... "Dark was the night...". Sublime stuff. Did you know in the 70's, Blind Willie's music was launched into space, aboard a capsle containing different items representative of the human race? Wonder where it is now.... wonder where it'll end up.

To anyone new to Johnson's music whos interested in purchasing a Cd of his, the compilation "Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground" is THE best place to start. Upon first listen, you may be brought to tears... just a warning.

ya know it's funny wille, back in 1945 they would not treat you for pneumonia on acount that it was an all white hospital because of that it ended up killing you but a meare 32 yrs later that same country sent your music into space with the Voyager spacecraft in 1977...it's fucked up to think you were good enough to be sent into space but not good enough to be cured next to a white man...... Way to go america

Love him. When you play Blind Willie Johnson there is a "realness"- or "honesty" that comes through these songs. This is something you can take to your heart. I have been a fan for many years and continue to have an even deeper appreciation for him. Thanks for adding me! Honored to be among his friends.

Johnson's "The Rain Dont Fall On Me, " and "Church, I'm Fully Saved Today" are some of the most powerful tracks in all American music.
