The Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames are Birmingham, England's original all-female, flat track competitive roller derby league. Formed in October 2006, the Dames are proud to be a part of this fast-paced, extreme, full-contact, hard-hitting, kick ass, flat-track sport on quad skates that is quickly taking hold of the UK, with leagues now being set up all over the country!
The Dames are a diverse team from a variety of backgrounds, ages and ethnicities. Our members work or study in industries such as banking, bartending, teaching, law and art, just to name a few. There are no pre-requisites to being a rollergirl! So if you want to get fit, have fun, build your self-confidence, release some stress, find a new hobby or make some great friends, then roller derby and the Birmingham Blitz Dames are for you!
Currently comprised of 30+ member/directors who enjoy, manage and facilitate this democratic, grassroots organisation, the Dames are always welcoming new recruits into their camp! All we ask is that you’re 18+, have a great attitude and are prepared to commit to regular practices (2-3 a week once you pass basic skills!) Don’t worry if you can’t skate – we’ll teach you all you need to know! If full contact is not your idea of fun, or if you happen to be of the male variety, why not enquire about referee or announcing positions? We would love to get anyone and everyone interested involved in the world of roller derby!
Full training for all positions is provided, and you’re welcome to come along to one of our free induction practices (on the first Saturday of every month) to check us out! We’ll provide you with some gear, teach you some basic skills, and happily watch as you fall in love with the UK’s fastest growing sport!
