About me: Darian Aaron is a new leader in the black gay and lesbian movement for visibility and equality. A former staff writer for Clik Magazine. Darian is the creator of Living Out Loud with Darian, a popular gay blog where he gives commentary on social, political, and religious issues that impact the LGBT community.
Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Darian was introduced to theater and dance in junior high school and quickly discovered a passion that would later become his career. His talent for performing brought him to New York City to study at The American Musical Dramatic Academy, Steps on Broadway, and Broadway Dance Center, with stints in Las Vegas and Los Angeles to follow.
After 10 years of dancing professionally all over the world on national tours, cruise ships, music videos, sitcoms, and commercials he left it all behind to pursue activism, a calling he’d neglected for far too long.
In 2006 he created Living Out Loud with Darian and was listed as one of the ‘Top Emerging Black Gay Men under 27’ by UNEQ Magazine in February 2007. His blog has been credited for giving a voice to those who are often too afraid to speak out.
His writing has been featured and linked on such popular websites as Keithboykin.com, Rod 2.0, Pam’s House Blend, gaylife.about.com, Southern Voice, The L.A. Times, Creative Loafing, and The National Black Justice Coalition to name a few.
Darian is at the forefront of a new type of activism online but looks forward to stepping from behind his computer and on the front lines as one of the liberating voices in the black LGBT movement.
When he’s not writing you can probably find him at home in Atlanta with his partner Trey or in the friendly skies as a flight attendant.
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet cool people from all different backgrounds. I'm a very open minded person and look for that quality in my friends. Anyone who hangs out with me has got to have a crazy sense of humor! Enjoy dancing at least recreationally, shopping, or just hanging out at home talking or watching movies. My friends must have a sense of purpose and direction, or at least be in the middle of searching for it!
