Joe's Interests
|
| General | Developing my writing skills and networking with like minded people.
Travelling - NYC, Tokyo (anywhere in Japan in fact), Seoul, Beijing, Singapore, London, Amsterdam, anywhere in the Caribbean, Austin TX (great music scene) are my favorites
Swimming - active member of U.S. Swimming as a judging official and masters swimmer. The kids you see listed in the friends section are U.S. competitive swimmers, two of which are my own.
Scuba - I have been diving for three years and have a PADI Divemaster level certification. Now working towards a Instructor level program. Diving is a blast.
oh, and a little black XKR - hence the email handle | | Music | Almost anything and everything, save for DISCO, hate it, always did.
What is worthy of Myspace mention however?
The Doors
Santana
U2
Bob Dylan
and a very underrated band: Steppenwolf, but then again, they named themselves after a book of one of my favorite authors. | | Movies | A few lasting favorites that come to mind:
"Blade Runner"
"Casablanca" - Bogey at his best.
"Good Will Hunting" - I went to college in Boston and hung with guys just like Will's friends; carousing bars and skirting the edges of civility - The movie is very true to life.
"In Harm's Way" - movie where John Wayne puts aside the macho image to portray a larger story of fate and courage.
"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" - look beyond the Italian western facade and take note of the senselessness of the civil war.
"Them" - Classic '50s science fiction, probably one of the best. | | Television | I am in the business of developing and marketing digital media technology. I work for the company that enables TiVo for example. Our forte is high definition video, satellite and cable solutions, internet video delivery, portable media, wireless connectivity; all the insanely geeky stuff that let's you guys do what you do here. I am one of the countless plumbers and carpenters of high tech. I love it actually; evoking an idea into a tangible reality is the best of artistic expression. | | Books | A Few Favorites
2001
Angela's Ashes
Being There
Cannery Row
Cosmos
Devil's Teeth
Huckleberry Finn
Into Thin Air
Islands in the Stream
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
The Perfect Storm
The Tokien series
Slaughter-house Five
Woman with the Alabaster Jar
Some recent stuff
I have been doing background on a longer non-fiction narrative of the'70s. I dare not call it a book, in fear of jinxing the project, but in the research of such these books I have recently read or revisited as the case may be:
Catcher in the Rye
MidSummer Night's Dream
Jim Morrison - Steven Davis version
A Separate Reality
Siddhartha
| | Heroes | My Dad; a carpenter, framer to be exact, a bull of a man, a hot tempered Spaniard, who despite life’s obstacles rose above them, but more importantly; had an innate ability to rise above limitations of perspectives – a good soul. |

Who I'd like to meet:
I learned, long ago, we should not pick people as if their characteristics were on some sort of menu, or coats to be pulled off a shopping rack. I would like to meet people who believe likewise.
