Blockades have been compared to:
Gallows
Hot Snakes
Courtney Love
The Distillers
Paramore
Blockades is a female fronted post punk three piece from Wakefield,West Yorkshire, reminiscent of Alexisonfire, The Distillers and Biffy Clyro mixed with their own domineering and catchy-as-hell style.
.
Blockades are currently getting ready to record their debut album scheduled for release through Dapsone Records in late 2009
"Wakefield band, ‘Blockades’ performed a great energy driven set. Funky undulating riffs and angry pained vocals from a front-woman you wouldn’t want to pick a fight with. They gave the set a true post-punk feel. They have a great bassist ‘Chris’ who delivered dark melancholic bass-lines that rumbled in the foundations of every number."
SURFACE UNSIGNED
"Blockades aren't your average band.Louise really does have a great voice for this genre of music and she's give many vocalists a run for their money. The passion in her voice when delivering her words is spot on. She also plays a tight guitar too! Chris is a great bassist and his lines make up for the lack of guitar and Danny keeps it all together on drums. They've been compared somewhere between Paramore and the Distillers and I'd go along with those comparisons and if given the right opportunities I can see this band being just as famous too! 7.5/10
STREET VOICE
"The first female of the night fronts this post hardcore pop outfit and does it with great vigour, and a voice that you would never expect to come out of this little lady. Blockades sound a bit like Skunk Anansie, but with fast tempo aggressive beats and attitude. It’s a massive sound from a 3 piece with seriously heavy killerriffs and sing-along choruses. This band have a lot of potential and with a voice like that, potential that should be realised."
SURFACE UNSIGNED
"In the face of the elitist, sexist and short sighted nature of the music business, it was refreshing to see Blockades, a female fronted outfit with lashings of passion and talent. Singer and guitarist Louise, has more than what it takes to fill the boots of any of the male rock bands at present, and then some. Open your eyes to this band, beneath the sultry and sassy exterior is a promising songwriter with a great future ahead."
LOUDNEWS
"Singular voice and brittle sound give this metallesque pop-rock something a bit more than the usual... I like it!! 8/10"
