Interests

  • General

I love to travel and have been to Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Morocco, Israel, France, Spain, Belgium, Holland, and Canada.
  • Music

Above all, I love music. I have very eclectic tastes in music. My collection includes music from all over the Celtic world: Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Fado from Portugal, Flamenco from Spain, Iranian, Turkish, Persian, music of Medieval Europe. I also enjoy blues, some rock from the 60s and 70s, classical and New Age. A few operas, but my favorite is Rigoletto. Voices: Sumi Jo, Bryn Terfel, Tommy Fleming, Itamar Cohen. I recently discovered the voice of Nikki Lamborn of Never the Bride. She is amazing. What a voice. Rivaled only by Janice Joplin. Melissa Etheridge can hang up her hat.
  • Movies

The Color Purple, Joy Luck Club, Shirley Valentine, Gladiator, The Sum of Us, Empire of the Sun, Once Were Warriors, Once, Iphigenia, Electra, The Fast Runner, Chinese movies (no, not the martial arts kind), Akira Kurosawa, Amelie, Beaches...
  • Television

True Blood. The Naked Archaeologist and Battlefield Detectives. Most anything on LinkTV. Gulty pleasures: American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. But my all time favorite show is McLeod's Daughters, a show from Australia about a group of women who run a cattle and sheep station.
  • Books

Steven Pressfield's Gates of Fire about the battle of Thermopylae and Last of the Amazons; Elizabeth Peters Egyptology series(Amelia Peabody mysteries), Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden, LJ Smith, Jeniene, Kim Wilkins, Charlaine Harris, and Jeniene Frost - for good writing and for making women heroes - Xena, you've got competition; Anne Rice. Khaled Hosseini, Diana Gabaldon, Edward Rutherford, Robert McCammon. Alice Walker, Alice Hoffman, Nigel Tranter, Haldor Laxness. Most anything medieval from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. Mika Waltari, Blake, Poe, Byron, Victor Hugo, Clive Barker, Edith Pargeter, Voltaire. Most recently finished The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. Nikos Kazantzakis: Report to Greco, Zorba the Greek, the Fratricides, St. Francis, Last Temptation of Christ, and on and on. And now....drum roll...all about Vampires. Twilight's first 3 books were great. The fourth stank. LJ SMith's NightWorld is fabulous. Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse mysteries are great too. And top of the list in this genre are Jeniene Frost's Night Huntress novels. For more escapist literature, Tony Hillerman and Arthur W. Upfield tribal mysteries.
  • Heroes

Xena, of Course! But also Ghandi, Charles Darwin, G.I. Gurdjieff, and His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama. Last but not least, Munchkinx cause she beat the crap out of her father for beating up her mother!

About me:

Let's see. Well, if you asked my friends they would say I am honest, gregarious, funny, irreverent, generous, loyal, adventurous, humanitarian and fun loving. I do have some faults...I curse like a sailor, for one thing, and I love to shock just for the reaction - typical Aquarian behavior. I march to the beat of my own drum. A well known astrologer says I am a perfect mix of Albert Schweitzer and Mickey Mouse. I agree! To wrap it up, I quote a friend: "Also you are an extremely accepting person who loves people of all sorts and life equally as much. You befriend everyone without prejudice. In other words, you’re down to earth, don’t care if we’re rich or poor, skinny or fat, have any major status in the world, own millions of material items or if we’re green, blue, purple, black, yellow or orange." I make soap, lip balms and glosses, massage butter, solid perfume, dry skin cream, healing salves, insect repellant, and other goodies. I have started to paint again, an activity which I abandoned for some years. I have uploaded some photos of my work, but I am not a good digital photographer, so forgive me the poor quality of the shots. It's abstract art and it is weird! Comments are welcome! In the summertime, going to the beach, swimming and kayaking are my favorite activities.

Who I'd like to meet:

People who enjoy many of the same things I do. But also people who inspire me and can teach me new things. I am ever the student of life and I take my lessons where i can get them.

Vicki, you are a "mover and shaker"! You accept every "dare" and challenge you think will extend you! That takes courage and belief in yourself!
Enjoy the change of Presidency..I hope it brings the change you and your friends crave! Pamela.
