Me. I was lucky enough to get the fabulous Pete Wade, the man who recorded Waking the Witches 2nd album, 'Hands and Bridges' to record me and put a guitar solo on Beggar Girl. He is a star I tell you. He has now moved away from this neck of the woods to do bigger and better things in all the big studios in London. What will we all do with out him?
Influences
I am influenced by music every day. More kind of inspired. My songs are a very me but I bet there are millions of influences in there.
My name is Rebecca Tamsin Ballantyne Mills. Seriously! I am a quarter of the band 'Waking The Witch'. I don't do much solo stuff anymore, but the music on here is what I would do on my ownio. I much prefer playing with my Weehatches, it's so much more fun.
I have been performing since I was 16 and writing for all that time too.
I am completely doing this wrong aren't I? I will start again...
Becky first started performing at the age of 16 to huge audiences in Harrogate. She was declared 'a massive talent' by the time she was 17 and everybody loved her. She became friends with Sting, and it was he himself who decided that Harrogate should erect a large bronze statue of her image in the town centre. In spring, the children dance around it and sing Becky Mills songs in her honour. The same thing happens in her home town of Pickering, but the statue is made of wood and has since shed its nose.
I am often told...I mean, she is often told that had she not become a pop/rock/folk star then U2 would probably be more well-known today. She does tell everybody to buy their records though to help push them more in to the public eye and take a bit of the attention from herself. She is beautiful, kind, fabulous and saintly. Everybody wishes they were her, in fact, but they can't be because she is 'Rebecca Tamsin Ballantyne Mills of the clan Ballantyne and there can be only one'. This was written by a third person as Rebecca ,being too abashed by the praise being heaped upon her, had to leave the room. God I love her. Sigh. (third person)
The Korks Gig was great. So good to see you back even if it is just for the one show. Jenny Thornton as a solo opener was trememdous. Possibly the best I've seen it performed- it has become one of my absolute favourite songs. (Would justify inclusion on a solo album imho). Really enjoyed the new material, Monkey and Leeds Lullaby. The song about the prostitutes (I forget the title) was rather hard hitting and beautifully delivered.
Basically, can't wait till you become more active musically. Seems like there's plenty to look forward to.
Hey Bex Next week will be my first official week off from work this year. Watching and listening to you at Korks will be the perfect way to end what I hope will be a relaxing break. Gina and myself are looking forward to seeing you and Pats - and I am excited about the prospect of some new material along with those classic 'toons' Counting the days! John xx
Love to you and Lou! Hope you are both well. Big day tomorrow - the daughter has got a flat in Sunderland so it is a trip up the A1 etc for the old jalopy tomorrow (that's the car by the way, not me!). That's it then, just me and my better half left at home...What will we find to talk about?
Happy Christmas, Becky and Louie! I hope things are going well for you. Please get out gigging again next year. I don't want to beg but I need to hear Jenny Thorton again live. Please?!
It's peeing down here, and I'm getting very wet on the outside. This is not good - as I prefer to get wet on the inside. No froth blowing tonight though. More's the pity. Chin chin!
greetings becky, weclum 2 the strange wonderful weird mysterious world of pollock and the porrohman ;-)
stay tuned for future alien communications and alleged rumoured sightings.........
coming soon to a workstation near you..... 'Tales from the Monochrome Basement'....... listen to the Magnesium Kid do battle with the four 'beings' deep under the earth of Scotland's ancient capital.................
Art as well. You really are a very clever girl. Musician, lyricist, artist, humourist, mother - is there no end to your talents? I presume that these are to illustrate your new songs?
