Article written by JUSTIN PRESS "Dallas Observer"
So it wasn’t until I pulled my 72’ Chevy Malibu onto the highway the other afternoon, sun was burning down hot and the open road lay before me. A blazing western wind was hitting the windshield and skidding up and over my car like dragon’s breathe. “Fuck, the only thing missing to this concrete journey was the right tunage”. Check the glove box, nothing just Zig Zags and old bottle caps, under the seat, hell no, just another burnt down roach, did find my Zeppelin dogtags though, cool. Back seat under my chick’s cut-offs, nah, not there either. Last place, drive-side visor. Damn straight, what did I have here….Purple, nah, too much Stormbringer last week, little Foghat, need some boogie, not just the English stuff, not yet. ZZ’s Tres Hombres, gonna save that for the kegger. Too bright for Sabbath and shit, Captain Beyond is cracked. Need something scenic, hazy like a desert yet blistering enough to keep my foot down on the gas. Got this one from, let me read it, can’t read shit with this tripped font, Blood of what?.. The Sun? Blood of the Sun? Slide it in, cranked the volume, Jensen tri-axels need to heat up in this burning wind. I need t-tops, fuck the windows down. (listening…listening…listening). “Holy hell is that an organ, a cowbell, freakin’Savoy Brown groove??” Did I just put in an 8-track because god damn if 1973 didn’t just flash before my mind……………………..
Here it is man, the trip known as Blood Of The Sun. Too bold to be stoner, but they’re just as stoned, too physical to be metal and too mean and studied to be AOR. Blood Of The Sun is lifestyle music, that is if your lifestyle is exploring, expanding and dripping your mind in the sonic senses. Picture a Logan Earth Sky skateboarder leaning into deep, carving lines down a desolate California mountain road. Long hair, slip-on Vans, headband and a head full of acid just sending him careening into infinity. That is the Blood Of The Sun experience. To simplify if Jon Lord got into knife fight with Grand Funk with heavy slabs 70’s jam raining down upon it, then you’d be in the ballpark. Fuck, enough of me yelling from the rooftops about Blood Of The Sun, go out and find out the exeprience on your own. And just in case you need the specs on these Texan thunderheads then dig it because baby it might be 2008 but the Blood are working like its 1970 burning up the studio, gigging with legends and turning Europe on its ass.
-New blood appears in Blood Of The Sun as longtime Dallas shredder Eric Schmidt (ex- Speedealer, Pervis and Mitra) joins the ranks and add his “Gorham” to Ty's “Robertson”.
-Blood of the Sun tackles two American rock institutions as they team up with the original metal band Blue Cheer (Summertime Blues) for a night of fuzz, distortion and a room full of smoke with a show at Dallas premier theater, The Granada, and then three hours North in Oklahoma City. **As this hits the press, the band is also in the studio with the legendary Derek St. Holmes (of Ted Nugent band fame) “Hey Baby”, “Just What The Doctor Ordered”, yeah that dude, laying down tracks for their next opus at Palmyra Studios using the Abbey Road console (wrap your head around that purists).
-The Europe 2008 Campaign starts in April with Mos Generator terrorizing the local villages leaving a wake of “bloodied” followers in their wake. From there it’s to Holland for the world famous Roadburn Festival sharing the stage with monsters like Trouble, ISIS and retro-killers Witchcraft, basically this is huge show. After that they will burn thru Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Belguim and Scandanavia like Hell’s hounds laying down bruising sounds that only Orange Amplification can provide.
-Later in the summer for their second Atlantic Crossing blitzkreig, the Stoner Hands Of Doom Festival awaits them in Germany (moved from the USA).
And that is just half of the story as August and September will continue to see Blood Of The Sun devouring what is left of various countrysides.
