   About Blood Orange
Blood Orange is a 4-piece band based in Nottingham. After relentless gigging and writing, they've honed their sound into what it is today; vast and intense. Razor-sharp mega-ton guitar, rumbling throbbing earthquake rhythms, thick sticky bass, creamy bitter vocals!

Reviews

The Maze, Nottingham - 7 February 2007
Next up is Blood Orange, who once again take on a metal meets indie approach punched in the face by a Wolfmother glove. Live, they merge songs together with bursts of heaviness coming out of nowhere, with a spot on sound. They're pleasing to the ears and even my mother liked them, which doesn't sound too appealing, but refrain from thinking negatively because they have an accessible sound which may attract a large fan base. (Saggy Pants Magazine)

The Gallows Inn, Ilkeston - 30 March 2007
Blood Orange, what can you say about this band? They've been kicking around the local music scene for what seems like an age but over the last year or so Blood Orange have really begun to build up a head of steam. Tonight sees the boys treading the boards at the Gallows Inn, Ilkeston. With the growing crowd being entertained by DJ Wolfman who plays a mixture of Classic Rock and newer Metal the evening is simmering along waiting for the live act to burst into action. Burst into action is exactly what Blood Orange does with the excellent song "Sun Rise" opening the set the band don't pause for breath before delivering the next two numbers "Pieces" and "Sweet Life". The audiences' interest is grabbed by the scruff of the neck as Neil (vocals); Gilly (lead guitar), Paul (bass) and Simon (drums) rattle on through their set. The front man Neil struts around mesmerising every one in the room with his intensely moody performance, crouching one second hanging from the rafters the next, Neil has a powerfully clear vocal style which does every song justice. He is ably supported by the bassist "BMF", who plays his instrument like he eats his kebabs, with gusto. About half way through the show Blood Orange treat us to "Tongue Tied" a tune you can't get out of you're head and readily available on a free cd given away by the band to any one who wants it. Blood Orange's style is difficult to put you're finger on, a subtle blend of Heavy Metal and Power Rock is how I view them. The drummer Simon gives them a thunderous beat and Gillys' guitar style, which he has developed over a long period of time, gives the band a unique sound. The evening is heading to a conclusion when we hear a reworked version of an old song "Lay To Waste" a vast improvement on the original version. It's long over due for Blood Orange to get into the studio and record a ten or twelve track cd for our musical pleasure. No one leaves the Gallows unhappy tonight, now what was that about kebabs? (GD)

Junktion 7, Nottingham - 20 September 2007
Although a venue of typically modest, understated proportions, the well-trodden boards of Junktion 7 are, tonight, subject to first-rate live acts of a distinctly more dynamic persuasion. Goth-tinged melodic rock act, Blood Orange, drip with stunning, almost studio-smooth sound quality. Lead vocalist, Neil Padgett, leans precariously over the edge of the stage, his voice intoxicatingly sweet yet stuck through with an atmospheric touch of needling spite. Countless intricate melodies are executed with flawless precision, both luxuriant and acidic-edged in character. The frantic riffs of Tongue Tied possess a captivating, crowd-pleasing, yet almost manic-depressive energy. (Faye Coulman - Sandman Magazine)

H-Stock, Heanor - 21 December 2007
To say I was looking forward to the next band is an understatement. Blood Orange never fail to deliver and on the night it was in my opinion the best I have ever seen this band perform. Led by a truly great frontman in Neil, and supported ably by skin bashing Simon and the age defying Bass Master Fury and Gilly I could not take my eyes off of them for 1 glorious second. They soon had the audience eating out of their hands, dancing in the aisles and singing along with the catchiest tunes of the night. "Tongue Tied" and "Days Like These" just begged for people to get up and rock. Mick Wilson being the catalyst for this as it seemed like hundreds of people could not control themselves and let themselves go including Mr PA Maaaarley himself. Amazing... (Andy Whitt)

MFN, Eastwood - 28 May 2008
Suitably warmed up the crowd gather for Blood Orange who play a good hour set of original numbers to an appreciative audience. Now I've seen this four piece power rock outfit many times before as regular readers of mine will be aware but tonight for some reason (may be the adverse weather conditions) Blood Orange go down a storm playing all their best songs like landslide, days like these and sunrise all with an intensity which makes you realise how seriously these guys take their performance. Gigging regularly in the Notts/Derby area is beginning to pay dividends for Blood Orange who are building up a loyal following of fans and having played the 'bouncy' frozen the boys finish off the night with an encore of step inside...
