THE BLOOM COLLECTIVE: A GRAND RAPIDS INFOSHOP

The Bloom Collective is an infoshop and lending library located at 1134 Wealthy Street (next to the Wealthy Street Theatre) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

MISSION:

The Bloom Collective is an infoshop and lending library providing resources to inspire radical social change. It is our belief that by offering a safe space from which to confront oppression we can move toward liberation.

HOURS:

* Monday: 4:00pm - 7:00pm
* Tuesday: 4:00am - 7:00pm
* Wednesday: 9:00am - 12:30pm
* Thursday: 1:00pm - 5:00pm
* Friday: 1:00pm - 5:00pm

MEMBERSHIP:

* We carry a wide variety of media including books, zines, DVDs, VHS, and spoken word CDs.

* We have a small selection of new and used books for sale.

* We have a space for folks to post flyers about protests, lectures, film showings, etc.

* We table at lectures, concerts, and other places.

Please come to show your support for the VICTIM, Derek Copp, who almost lost his life due to this officers negligence. Don't let them get away with actually supporting this shooting. The officer has already received paid leave and only lost 8 days of work - plus he's only getting charged with a misdemeanor. We can not stand by and allow them to actually believe that this is OK in any way. REMEMBER - This could have been any one of you or your friends. All you will need is a white shirt (that we can write a number on) and a desire to participate in something bigger than yourself, to use your voice and body to help show people what this war is all about, and why we MUST end it. This could be something that children could also be encouraged to participate in, as there are children dying in Iraq EVERYDAY as well. So, now, we need bodies! Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and be a body for this demonstration? It’s pretty easy to lay down and play dead, what’s not easy is dealing with the fact that those who ARE dead aren’t playing. We HAVE to be their voice. Unconventional Mid-West	Apr 24 2008 8:14 PM On May 30th - June 1st, 2008, folks from all over the Midwest will be heading to Minneapolis, Minnesota to flesh out solid proposals in regards to how we’ll work together against the RNC/DNC come September and August. This three day event will include essential party-crashing workshops, networking, and intensive strategizing. If you have a specific workshop you’d like to see or facilitate, get a hold of us at the email address at the bottom of this release. TO GET INTO THE STRATEGIZING SESSION YOU MUST BE VOUCHED FOR. If your planning on making it to the strategizing session, please send an RSVP (to the e-mail at the bottom of this release) specifying your willingness to be apart of it. At this point we’ll send you a form to complete and send back to us. THE REST OF THE WEEKEND IS OPEN TO EVERYONE. Because of this, we ask that folks to keep security culture in mind to create the safest space possible for all parties involved. PLANNING EARLY. I am an illustrator who has been looking into getting involved with local, political, environmental, and social organizations. I have recently been in contact with Richa from Spoon and I would like to perhaps create artwork for your shop. I came across the Bloom Collective one day while on Wealthy St. and was very interested in the idea behind your shop. I think that it is wonderful. I have produced an illustration with the theme of a flower blooming out of the cracks of an urban setting, your logo, but it is only part of the larger picture. There is two versions; one is realistic and the other is abstract. I have color, as well as black and white versions for both. I was wondering if you would at all be interested in using them for something, whether it is a flyer, your myspace page, or perhaps even just to hang in the window of your shop. I created them with the intent of sending them to you. I was wondering if you had an e-mail address so I could send them to you as an attachment if you were interested in checking them out.
