About me:

Thursday starts the weekend!! And what better way to kick off the celebration than by listening to bloomingOUT every Thursday evening from 6 to 7 pm? Have to work or attend class? Not to worry. You can listen to us later via podcasting or download and listen on the web. Click Here

Why should you listen? Well maybe 'cause we are the only such media program in Indiana, as well as one of the few in the Midwest and the nation that includes news, views and issues related to the queer community that do not appear in mainstream media. We provide a voice both within and without Indiana that is for the most part absent in local, state, national and international arenas and we are a forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas. bloomingOUT is upbeat, informative and entertaining with an appeal to everyone lesbian, gay, bi, trans and even straight folks. Our perspective on the LGBTIQ community celebrates culture, diversity and humanity. We have great guests from ministers to national entertainers and a variety of musicians that appeal to all types of musical preference. We have comedians and playwrights, poets and itinerant storytellers And besides Helen and Victor are really cool!! How can you not tune in???

You can listen to BloomingOUT every Thursday from 6 to 7pm (Eastern Time). If you live in the Bloomington, Indiana area tune in to listen on WFHB 91.3 FM and 98.1 FM, Nashville, IN 100.7 FM and Ellettsville, IN 106.3 FM. If you live outside these areas CLICK HERE to listen to the live stream. You can also CLICK HERE to download MP3s of past shows or you can CLICK HERE to subscribe to our podcast.

Who I'd like to meet:

Meet the amazing hosts of BloomingOUT,

Helen Harrell

Helen Harrell is a long-time activist for social justice. She is a former clinical therapist, pre-school teacher, construction worker, union organizer, and co-founder of Bloomington, IN chapter of Pride at Work. She is co-founder and current President of Spencer IN PFLAG chapter and is a workshop presenter, free lance writer, columnist and lecturer. She has a master's degree in clinical psychology and was working toward a PhD when she left to live the communal life for a few years. Upon returning to 'civilization' she became an employee of Indiana University, first in the political science and then speech communication departments and is currently affiliated with the African Studies Program. She is the advisor for the undergraduate LGBT student group OUT, serves as co-chair of the Community Friends and Resource Network with the Neal Marshall Black Culture Center and served a term as treasurer of the Bloomington Black Business and Professional Association She is also last, but not least, a mother and grandmother who considers herself to be most fortunate to have the opportunity in assisting WFHB and the bloomingOUT staff with the challenge of educating and illuminating the public in regard to LGBT issues. Her goal is and has always been to eliminate discrimination in any form and to help create a truly just society and world.

and Victor Kinzer

Victor is originally from Bloomington, Indiana, though he spent a short 4 and a half years living in Austin, TX. He has been involved in the Bloomington community since junior high school, working for several years with the Bloomington Playwrights Project, as well as Teen Services at the Monroe County Public Library. He is currently the Library Coordinator at the GLBT Student Support Services office, and is always looking for new ways to be involved in the larger GLBT community in Bloomington. He has nearly completed a studio arts degree with a focus on metalsmithing and screenprinting. He is exceptionally excited to be behind the microphone again, having missed his radio theatre experience with Minds-Ear.org doing The Dante Experience, The Unravelling, as well as some other small contract voice work.
