Formed in the glorious clown town that was High Wycombe in the late 80's.

Spawned the bastard sons of an old Hardcore band. Namely Chainsaw Enema.

BLOSSOM

Big Green Squiggles on the Overhead Projector

The heady insanity of the hardcore bludgeoning left for dead... band stalwarts messrs. Shark and Darryl set search for like minded fools to be mad things in a mad, mad shop.

The Student Union bar in High Wycombe seemed the obvious choice to find like minded spirits. Here they met a bizarre Sheffieldian thing that was very into Pop Will Eat Itself. Name they knew not, but Poppi seemed to be the obvious choice. Aaah the new band member... simply NUTS!

After much drinking they approached a tall bald speccy bloke in a Minor Threat top. (Me!) 'Do you wanna be in a band? We need someone to hit and stuff.' What more encouragement did I need? And lo the first incarnation of Blossom was formed. Known at the time as... Mark Shark's Flower Garden we played a gig at the Union Bar. We may have been good. We may have been shite. We did have a dancing pig (cheers Will). No one seems to remember.

The music was a heady blend of tunes and off beats reminiscent of Cardiacs with leanings towards early Dickies and a little bit of asylum antics. The seed was planted and began to... err ermm ... Blossom?

A name change first, with a nod to it's dubious history, this time, Thee Enema. It was at this point Poppi had a party. I passed out on the floor with some prog rock kack on the Hi-fi system (No, it really was a hi-fi system!) It was one of them ones where the arm cricks off at the end on the record and plays again. and again. and again etc. I awoke to the revelation (or was it just brain washing?) of a new Marvel. The Cardiacs. I had listened to A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window whilst sleeping and it had wyrmed it's way into my subconsciousness. And it was good. I could tell you lots about the wonderment of the band but that has been done so many times by so many other people!

Eventually the band grew and plumped for Blossom. There are three theories on how the bands name was formed;

  1. Blossom Rock played Grandma Adam's in the 60's version of the Adam's Family.
  2. Blossom was the name of the first My Little Pony.
  3. Blossom was the name that one of our mad friends decided would be a great name for a band. Shortly after that he held aloft a carrot and announced, 'I am on a search for SATAN!' and left. Later we discovered he had been sectioned.

All the above are true but only one is the real reason for us being called Blossom.

Many gigs ensued but that would be dull to tell all that quivvy vivvy!

COVERS

We quite happily twist proper songs to our way of thinking... here is a list of some of the covers wot we have played live;

Undertones - Here Comes the Summer

Madness - Baggy Trousers

Misfits - Hallowe'en (Saved for the 'SPECIAL' Hallowe'en gigs)

B52's - Rock Lobster

Hehehehe, good to hear your stuff again.

I could also point out that you've had at least one other drummer, albeit briefly, but that would just be picky ;-)

Hi there. This is very good stuff, IMHO. It's Ska-like Scum of Toytown (great band) were, with a little sprinkle of Cardiacs that makes for a nice unique sound. We likes it.
