About me: Welcome to the MySpace page of the Blount County Humane Society, based in Maryville, TN.
One of our first goals is to build a SAFE No Kill Humane Society Shelter and Spay and Neuter clinic. Our mission is to eradicate the 70 to 80% KILL rate that we have in Blount County. Our County Government using the fund raising services of Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation are currently raising funds to build a County Animal Control Kill Shelter(POUND)where large numbers of dogs and cats will be KILLED to provide "Animal Control". Animal Control is not for the welfare of animals it is for the convenience of humans. Please only support shelter efforts that follow the NO KILL PHILOSOPHY. Every Thursday at 5:30pm we meet at the Blount County Library. We go over all the important issues in the Pack such as No Kill Shelter Effort, All Creatures Thrift Store, Adoption Events, Adoptable Critters and Foster Homes, Shop for the Critters Days and much more. If you really want to come make a different in the animal situation in Blount County, this is the meeting for you!!

Please remember most animals that are killed in kill shelters are PERFECTLY healthy. They either aren't babies, aren't pretty, or have been there more than a couple of weeks at most, and are not wanted by the orginal owners. That doesn't mean they aren't loyal, good, or protective. It means someone did something horrible and abandoned them. They shouldn't DIE for that. They need time and a home. My two dogs were abandoned at a boat ramp and my parents found them, paid the medical bills, house traied them and gave them to us. I have a 1 1/2 year old toddler, they protect her like she is their sister. I have 3 other children as well. The dogs check their rooms every night and then sleep in the boys room under their beds, when they aren't sleeping near me. Abandoned pets can make fantastic pets!
Please support Steve and the no kill shelter. Call local government in Blount County. Tell them you would rather have a no kill shelter here.
