About me:

Welcome to the Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn, MySpace site which reflects the interests of our regulars at the Blue. Our full site can be found at www .BlueBell .uk .eu .org

We're a cosy, warm and intimate little venue for the musician who has a penchant for unplugged and acoustic folksy, bluesy country or jazz music with an appreciative audience who likes to join in.

Built in the mid 1700s at the crossroads of two old coaching routes, the Blue Bell Inn is purportedly named after a local privateer’s boat the Blue Bell. Legend has it that he was later caught and hanged for his piracy and is thought to be buried a few hundred yards away in the cemetery next to Halkyn Castle.

We are an independent, family run freehouse and as CAMRA Regional Pub of the Year, CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year and runner-up Evening Leader Pub of the Year, we were also listed as one of the Sunday Telegraph's Top Ten UK Country Pubs in 2008, 'The Best Pub' in 2009 and have been picked out as one of the Best Summer Walks for 2009 in the Sunday Times! Running many events, we are enjoyed by musicians, dancers, walkers, riders, cyclists and locals alike.  At 850 feet we are near the top of Halkyn Mountain with spectacular 70+ mile views over the Dee & Mersey rivers to the distant Cumbrian mountains & Pennine hills. Real fires in winter add to the warm welcome.

We’ve had hundreds of different cask ales to date and our own locally brewed and Welsh Blue Bell Bitter is always on along with its new stable mate Dark Blue and our own home made Rosie's Blue Bell Cider and other regularly changing real ales & ciders. We are in the Good Pub, Cider and Beer Guides and we have a Cask Marque for quality.

Our food is a mixture of locally sourced, home made and traditional meals ranging from lighter bites to those that challenge the hungry.

What's On...

Every Monday it's conversational Welsh night!

Every Tuesday evening we open our doors to all who enjoy board games (you can play them most days here but Tuesday is the big one). We have Backgammon, Chess, Go, Labyrinth, Scrabble, Abalone, Mancala, Shut-the-box, Cards, Cribbage, Dice, Dominos, Darts and Pool (UK version) to name but a few.
Every 2nd Tuesday The Ranting Dogs, a fantastic folk quartet - Steve, Dugie, Mark & Michael rehearse and play at the Blue Bell Inn (from 9ish) playing traditional acoustic folk with guitars, mandola and woodwind and a celtic leaning.

Every Wednesday evening we hold a Pub Quiz in the winter and in the summer we have our free guided sunset walks in the evening at 7:00pm (for 7:30pm).

We have a free guided walk every Thursday afternoon at 1:30pm (for 2pm).

Turn up and join on the first and fifth Thursday evenings of the month if you want to perform, songs, music, poetry, monologues, anything legal, safe & entertaining. So bring your instruments, your voices, or just your ears.
The 2nd Thursday of the month M&S join us for some folk, rhythm and blues.
The 3rd Thursday of the month brings our easy listening duo Reflections for you to enjoy and join in with some wonderful melodic oldies.
The 4th Thursday of the month brings Mike Flaherty, a gifted singer/songwriter.

Every Friday night we hold a traditional sing-a-long with Roger Hampson at the keys.

We also have a free guided walk every Saturday Morning at 10:00am (for 10:30am).

Every Sunday afternoon Mad Ed's Hot Five brings you great music and good humour with Trad Jazz at the Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn.
