The Blue Edge of the Prairie Band is the musical collaberation between Janice Swartz and Kerry Spitzer, plus occasional guest musicians.
Janice is a classically trained violinist who suppliments her symphonic gigs with outings in blues, jazz, and pop groups in the Chicago/Milwaukee area. Her improvisational skills have earned her the title "Fine Fiddlin'" Janice Swartz. She plays 4 and 5 string fiddles,mandolin, and stompboard.
Kerry Spitzer is a multi-instrumentalist composer and arranger who writes songs about life's little bumps in the road with a touch of bitter-sweet humor, Midwestern pragmatism, and hope. An acclaimed fingerstyle, flatpicking, and bottleneck guitarist, he's also an in demand R&B keyboard player. He likes tossing bouzoukis, ouds, ukes and other out of the way or forgotten instruments into the mix. Although their music is largely blues and folk based, they love to inject a little bluegrass, ska, Celtic, or swing just to keep things interesting.
