Blue Faze is a Pittsburgh based R&B, soul, funk and blues band. The band puts on a high energy show that displays the diverse range of influences of its band members.
Blue Faze is composed of the following band members:
Miss Freddye, Lead Vocals – Blue Faze features the sweet and soulful vocals of Fredericka Stover. She has been singing for 11 years and carries on the very fine tradition of Etta James and Koko Taylor, while adding just the right touch of the modern influences of Susan Tedeshi and Tracy Chapman. Finally she adds a personal touch that is all her own. There is no way to describe it; you just have to experience it- one listen, and you’ll be hooked. Come out and help settle the debate; Does Miss Freddye sing ballads or rockn’ blues better? …I like her ballads, no wait – her rockers…oh, I don’t know, you decide for yourself!
Jason Caliguri, Guitar, Lead/Rhythm & Vocals – Jason is a soulful master of guitar in the SRV, Luther Allison and Buddy Guy tradition of high energy guitar playing. Having played in clubs since the age of 16, he plays with a sophistication and maturity that belies his youth. He has been playing in area bands for 18 years and always leaves the audiences wanting more. As the musical director of the band, Jason brings together the musical strengths of the band to form a powerful fusion of R&B, funk, soul and blues (All that means for the listener is that the music is tons of fun and very danceable!).
Chris (a/k/a Kit) Nacy, Harmonica – Chris’s soaring harp lines add just the right color to really bring the blue out in Blue Faze (influences include; Smokin’ Joe Bisceglia, Greg "Fingers" Taylor and Matt Nacy). His blues harmonica playing makes you ponder the philosophical question; why does listening to the “blues” make you feel so good? On second thought, who cares! Just sit back and enjoy. The blues never felt so good!
John Erskine, Drums (& Attitude!) – John’s love and appreciation of music comes out in every beat of his drums. If you mix John’s many years of experience (with such bands as The Vogues and Jimmy Adler) together with this attitude, what you get is a smooth rock-solid-grove that simply raises one spirits (and draws you to the dance floor!). When he plays, you just don’t want the beat to end. So don’t come out if you have to be anywhere soon…
Matt McClintock, newst memeber, has been a bassist for a number of years. Not only is he an electric bass guitar, he also plays upright bass! He has played for the fabulous jazz singer Erin Burkett.
Blue Faze has played throughout the greater Pittsburgh area since it’s inception in 02’ and is booked solidly throughout the year. The band has opened for national acts such as Kelly Richie and Greg “Fingers” Taylor.
