Between the four of us... Oh so many. Whatever list I come up with now is far from exhaustive (and far from any type of order)... As they come to my head...
The BEATLES, John Mayer, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Madeski Martin and Wood, Jason Mraz, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Victor Wooten, Allman Bros., Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Oasis, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Elliot Smith, Iron and Wine, Collective Soul, Amos Lee, Pete Yorn, Aimee Mann, Miles Davis, Steely Dan, James Katz (he has a page on MySpace), Butch Walker/Marvelous 3 (as does he), Yossi Piamenta, Moshav Band, Soulfarm, Hotpants, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, James Taylor, Radiohead, Coldplay, Deathcab for Cutie, Stone Temple Pilots, Counting Crows, Julain Velard ... See our influences up there? Put them all in a pot and stir. Add some personality from the four of us, and stir again. That's us - sometimes a song will combine all of the elements, sometimes a song will sound more like one element.
The music draws from pop, rock, funk, jazz, blues, and everything in between. The messages are spiritual and contemporary with Jewish themes. This is not your traditional Jewish music. The songs are usually a mix of English and Hebrew; and this mix allows us to put our original spin on some very classic concepts. Blue Fringe has been around since Fall of 2001, playing venues all over the U.S. and the world, including South Africa, Australia, England, and Israel. Our first independant release, My Awakening (2002), sold close to 15,000 albums. Our second effort, 70 Faces, was released in the Summer of 2005. Our latest record, The Whole World Lit Up, has been out as of December 2006. We're just trying to make music about things that matter to us in the musical styles that matter to us. It's that simple.
