Welcome to WAMU’s Bluegrass Country on MySpace! We broadcast 24 hours a day on HD Radio in Washington D.C. and on the world wide web at BluegrassCountry.org. Our hosts are here to bring you the best in traditional and contemporary bluegrass. Because our bluegrass hosts are musicians, ethnomusicologists, historians, producers and festival-goers people all over the world have discovered that bluegrass is one of the most interesting, honest and heart-felt musical formats. And because we grew out of the American tradition of public broadcasting we don’t make you pay to listen - all we ask is that if you like what you hear you become a member and help support the music.
We started up in June of 2001 when a bunch of people got together at WAMU in Washington, D.C. and came up with the idea of broadcasting bluegrass over the Internet. For 32 years, WAMU has been a pioneering presence in the bluegrass community and so with the commitment of our hosts, a couple of computers and a lot of volunteers, bluegrasscountry.org was born. Down the line we were joined by hosts from Ohio, California and even Australia, adding layers of variety that really reflect the diversity of the music.
In the fall of 2006 we began broadcasting in the Washington D.C. area in HD Radio at 88.5 Channel 3. In 2007, we strengthened our commitment to being a robust radio station by adding 9 hours per day of live shows and switching our signal to the stereo HD channel; 88.5 Channel 2.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
