The Bluegrass Lumber Company is the sound of the mountains and valleys of South Appalachia. With driving rhythms and resounding harmonies, this bluegrass express rolls down the tracks singing the songs of our heritage and paving the way for the future of bluegrass music.
The band consists of four of the south's finest young musicians:
A New Hampshire native, Kevin Scanlon moved to Asheville in 2000 to delve deeper into the sounds of the banjo and bluegrass. You'll enjoy the versatility of his clawhammer and three finger pickin styles as he burns it up on songs like Ol' Slewfoot and the bands' own Lonesome Carolina Grass. When Kevin brings his genuine old timey vocals to the lead, no matter where you may be, you know you are close to home.
Jared "Blue" Smith is the groups' southpaw mandolin phenom. With lightning fast licks and energetic rhythm, he gets you off your seat and on your feet, whatever your mood. A homegrown Kentucky boy, Blue was raised on the beautiful songs of the old mountain churches and steeped in the now fading traditions of Kentuckian Appalachia. With credentials like his he had no choice in becoming a tried and true bluegrass musician.
The guitar is picked up by C.W. Murray, another of Kentucky's native sons. Born and raised in Lexington, Welby isn't your usual bluegrass guitarist. A finger-picker rather than a flat-picker, he has a unique style that is exquisitely innovative and yet retains a sound that is still traditional.
Ian Harrod is the newest addition the group, joining them on the stand up bass. Ian is local to North Carolina, growing up in Raleigh and spending time all throughout Western North Carolina. His talents on bass are matched only by his outstanding vocals. Drawing from life experiences and inspired by the wonderful countryside of Southern Appalachia, their songs reflect that which we all know and love. Life.
