MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission

BHE's mission is to use the magic of Television and Film to produce quality dramatic content that focuses on the conflicts between “society-at-large” and certain social sub-cultures (e.g. A popular sports figure is conflicted because his sexuality doesn't confirm to status quo; A popular actor keeps striving for stardom regardless of the world's constant questioning about his sexuality; and a political figure must choose between relationship and his commitment to his constituents who would condemn him if they knew him - just to name a few.) BHE creates powerful storylines that are exciting and relevant with characters representing the perspectives of all social groups, thus having a broader appeal than even popular Television. BHE targets the 18-48 male and female who are straight, gay and/or bi-sexual.

The Business

The mainstreaming of this complex and yet by definition all inclusive subject matter, has proven to be successful and lucrative in the business of entertainment. Movies like "Brokeback Mountain," "Notes On A Scandal" the forthcoming "Tipping the Red Velvet", television shows such as "Ellen", "Will & Grace," and "The Wire” have been won Academy and Emmy awards and have been groundbreaking hits for their production companies and networks.

The Process

There is no "I" in TEAM. That's the mantra of CEO Shahid Manning when speaking of Blue Horizon Entertainment (BHE). Through BHE, Shahid has created a unique production company that harnesses creative professional's talents (writers, producers, graphic artists, et al.) and allows them to add their creative input to the base concepts. As a result it compounds and grows into a collaborative effort. Shahid acts as creative Executive Producer overseeing the overall vision as each project grows and matures.

The Vision

The structure of BHE allows the company to focus on providing networks with quality original programming. With stars like Taye Diggs and Jesse L. Martin (RENT), Alicia Keys (SMOKIN' ACES), Anthony Mackie (BROTHER 2 BROTHER), Queen Latifah (SET IT OFF), Nia Long (IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK), Keith Hamilton Cobb and Victoria Rowell (NOAH'S ARC), Rockmond Dunbar (PUNKS), and (yes) Isaiah Washington (the Spike Lee masterpiece GET ON THE BUS), all taking on gay and lesbian roles that have proven pivotal points in their careers, this genre is open to all audiences who can appreciate quality programs, strong acting and good, solid stories. BHE realizes what networks understand: that bringing quality programming audacious enough for a wide range of viewer appeal increases market share (e.g. $450 billion in disposal revenue per annum) and advertising revenue too vast to ignore.
