Blue Lily Commission is the solo project of Stephen Palmer, science-fiction author and founding member of the psychedelic space band Mooch. Blue Lily Commission was set up to create trancey ethnic beats, using computers and samples, but also plenty of real instruments, played by Steve: flutes, guitars, saz, lute, etc. The project has also featured the singing of Karen Anderson, well known on the Bay Area underground music scene.
The first two albums, "Wine Songs" (2000) and "In The Heart Of The Old City..." (2001) were released privately on CDR. The third album, "Seshen And The White Jasmine Commission" (2003) was never officially released, but the fourth album, "Eastern Evening", was released in 2005 by the British indie label Rubbish Records.
In 2007 all four albums were re-released - the first three in remastered form, with bonus tracks - by the Glastonbury based Pond Life Studios. These albums are available as pay-to-download from their secure server. Payment is by PayPal.

In 2008 the fifth album "Eve Songs" was released by AmbientLive Records, while a new Indo dub extravaganza, "Bharatadubs," is released on the summer solstice 2009...
Some reviews:
"Eastern Evening" takes you on a dreamy boat ride through the Middle East with this hyper ballad hymn to world music. With his recent instalment as the Blue Lily Commission, Steve Palmer travels an interesting road of technology and symbolic spirituality with guest vocals provided by the San Francisco based Karen Anderson.
"Eastern Evening" is a powerful set of deep space music. It's really hard to classify Blue Lily Commission. The music has far more going on than the typical space ambient artist. There's much here to appeal to the trance crowd, but has a complexity and variety that transcends that genre. There's certainly plenty here for space rockers to enjoy. And prog rockers with a taste for space would definitely appreciate what Steve is doing. Recommended.
