Blue Night Fellas (n) - young fellas writing rap music which blends various 'external' influences e.g. Jazz, Hip Hop, Pop, Rock, Blues, Soul etc.
Officially formed in March 2008, a brainchild of Asyraf Hardy & RDZ.
Originated from songwriting & composing sessions for personal projects of the members, the Fellas decided to come up with original materials after receiving strong encouragement from close friends.
RDZ, an emcee and the Fellas’ beat maker and music sampler. Co-founder of the Fellas. As implied by his name (Rhymes Deliver Zeal: RDZ), this zealous fella's lyrics are driven by his passion to educate and share with the masses on various issues which are often overlooked. His lyrics are delivered in English, which complement Asyraf’s Malay lyrics.
Asyraf Hardy, emcee and one of the band's lyricist from M.I.X. Strongly influenced by Mos Def, The Roots, Outlandish and Remarkable Current, Asyraf came up with the idea of forming Blue Night Fellas, in which he collaborates with RDZ, who shares the same passion. Prefers doing his trade in his mother tongue - the Malay language, he delivers rhetorical messages concerning love, culture, religion, current issues etc.
Azim Ali, one-half of the musician side of the Fellas. Drummer by trade, he is also a multi-instrumentalist who is able to play the guitar, bass and keyboard. Finds groovy music interesting. Strongly influenced by the likes of Billy Kilson and Dave Weckl. A versatile musician. Writes and arranges some of the songs for the Fellas.
Kazlan Ali, guitarist and bassist. The elder brother of Azim, who is a newly converted 'music student'. Influenced by various types of music, he prefers to remain experimental and looks forward to sharpen his compositional and playing skills. Writes and arranges some of the Fellas' original materials.
Azfar Zubri, plays the bass. He is influenced by Jaco Pastorius, Reid Anderson, Jimmy Blanton, Charlie Parker, Ron Carter, Charlie Haden, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Dream Theater, Earth, Wind and Fire, Nat King Cole Chick Corea, Ali Omar Obe Hairunie and many more.
