About me:
PhotobucketPhotobucket

The building was built in 1832 and was the first property built on Frenchmen street. In the seventies it became The Dream Palace and solidified itself as the first music club on Frenchmen Street as well as a primer music venue in New Orleans. In 2000 it became the Blue Nile. In 2003 the current ownership and management moved in. The Blue Nile is a locally owned two floor music venue. It features one of the best sound systems in the city. The second floor boasts the only publicly accessible balcony over Frenchmen Street. Live music is offered Tuesday through Saturday.(weekdays vary) Every Thursday the first floor is transformed into a dancehall featuring the city’s best reggae deejay. Regular live music acts at the Blue Nile include the jazz and blues of trumpeter Kermit Ruffins, The Latin and Afro-Cuban sounds of Vivaz and Otra, and the excitement of the powerful brass band, The Soul Rebels. On the weekend the upstairs becomes a late night DJ lounge going into the early hours of the morning. The club is also available to rent for parties and corporate events. ..dream palace The building at 534 Frenchmen St. has quite a musical history. It was the site of the original Dream Palace club, which helped launch the careers of venerable New Orleans rockers The Radiators back in the '70s. After the Dream Palace closed, Club Istanbul opened, giving some of New Orleans' world-music artists a regular home and adding to the exotic feel of Frenchmen Street. The last incarnation of the space was the Tin Roof Cafe, offering traditional jazz. Now new ownership has renovated the space and christened it the Blue Nile (534 Frenchmen St., 948-2583), offering a host of eclectic up-and-coming local acts, spotlighting funk and jazz. Now the Blue Nile is quickly taking its place as a hotspot on the Frenchmen Street music strip, alongside its neighbors Snug Harbor, Cafe Brasil, d.b.a. and the Spotted Cat. For a complete schedule of performers and more information, call 948-2583.
