This is no ordinary road. With grand mountains on either side, vibrant communities along the way, and stunning landscapes from beginning to end, this is a journey unlike any in the world. No matter where you decide to merge into the experience, or at what milepost you choose to leave it, there is timeless magic in every mile.
For generations people have come to the Parkway to be inspired, soothed, awed and enlightened. Those who journeyed here as children years ago return now with children and grandchildren. For them the promise of the Parkway thrives not only in a quiet escape to natural splendor, but also in the joy of sharing a profound and unforgettable moment.
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation understands the power of such collective experience, and we champion this extraordinary environment that connects the spirits of countless people and nature’s glory through a twisting ribbon of mountain road.
From one person to another, one generation to another, the journey of the Parkway is a journey of life. Here is where history reaches out to the future, where memories and dreams travel boldly together.
For this reason the Foundation works faithfully to help preserve the Parkway— A gift to us from the past that we now hold gently in our hands, a meaningful journey that we take, weave into our life stories, and then pass on.
Share the Journey.
Music
The Parkway is a diverse landscape of stories and stories depicted in music which has its roots in the southern Appalachians. The cradle of this music is interpreted at the Blue Ridge Music Center, Milespost 213.
About me: The Blue Ridge Parkway is an engineering marvel, a design masterpiece, a conservation corridor, an economic engine, and a national treasure. But the Blue Ridge Parkway is mostly an experience of a lifetime, an unforgettable, and an inspiring journey.
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation provides private support for vital enhancement projects that would otherwise go unfunded.
The Foundation focuses closely on the enrichment of children and the assurance that the traditions, beauty, vision, and promise of the Blue Ridge Parkway are fully realized. Whether by constructing improved visitor facilities or by creating hands-on learning programs that encourage preservation of this unique national park, the Foundation works independently of federal budgets to see that everyone who travels here, for generations to come, can share the journey.
Who I'd like to meet: HOW YOU CAN HELP THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY
More than 20 million visitors travel the Blue Ridge Parkway each year, but many of you live far away from the southern Appalachian mountains, and aren't always sure how you can make a meaningful contribution.
Well, there are many, many ways you can help Share the Journey®!
Well, '09 is here babies, and man are we ready! Vertigo Jazz Project is shooting out the gate with a tremendous night of live music w/ fusion masters Gongzilla at Stella Blue on SATURDAY 1/24/09!!! We will be joined by a full horn section of Asheville allstars for this show featuring Derrick Johnson (trombone) of Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, Ryan Knowles (sax) of The Afromotive, and Justin Ray (trumpet) of The Michael Buble' Band (yes ladies; that Michael Buble Band).
Plan on many suprises from this conglomerate of established and rising stars of Asheville and beyond. This will be a big one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GONGZILLA: Journalist Bill Milkowski called GZ "simply mind-boggling". Gongzilla first released a series of mostly instrumental albums featuring guest guitarists on each one, including jazz fusion legends Allan Holdsworth, David Torn and David Fiuczynski. More recently, Gongzilla has included some U.S. jamband heroes, like guitarist Chuck Garvey of moe., and has emphasized vocals, crafting songs which fuse with improvisational rock. Contradictions and balance; Rowe and Lozaga sing cool songs that will singe your soul while balancing both the hyper precision and the rockin' mayhem this band is capable of live. The new studio record "Five Even" includes the aforementioned Garvey as well as Jake Cinninger of Umphrey's McGee plus guitarist David "Fuze" Fiuczynski (Screaming Headless Torsos) with bassist Kai Eckhardt of Garaj Mahal sitting-in too!

You know the people that say utopia isn't possible have already given up. Living sustainably in balance with our environment and food sources will bring us the freedom to live in harmony, and provide the opportunity for all to excel in their efforts, dreams and life path. Utopia is not only possible but it is the very essence that should guide our dreams and vision for ourselves and with each other. It is the horizon we should all strive for everyone and every nation. Anything short of that will lead us astray.
It's a pleasure. I was born and raised right beside the Blue Ridge Parkway and it is the most beautiful and breathtaking place. I love riding for hours and hours on that road.
