Influences
Influences run the spectrum from Peter Rowan to Emylou to John Hiatt to Sheryl Crow. Not to be forgotten....New Riders, the Byrds, Flying Burrito Bros and the ole Commander and his Lost Planet Airman....also the masters of the blues including Little Walter, the Fab Thunderbirds, SRV, but most of all the monsters of the midwest......Little Eddie and the Stompers.
Blue Root is a roots based band based in the Kansas City area with Kevin and Mary Corbett, Erin Friedrich and Luke Mitchell. We play a combination of original music and other songs from our favorite musicians. We feel responsible to provide our interpretation of history in Kansas and the boarder war in some of our songs. Our song Quantrill is written through the eyes of a 10 year old boy in Lawrence, KS on an August morning in 1863.....when Quantrill burnt down that town. Blue Root provides a song of redemption and salvation with Crazie Carrie Nation......one of the craziest Kansans of them all.....the temperance screamn, bottle bustin gal from Medicine Lodge. Our song Bluegrass Girl won the 2007 Winfield songwriting contest. Musical influences range from ole time bluegrass to Irish to rock and blues......and we'll play them all!! Friends and favorite folks that we enjoy being with and playing with in Winfield include, Free State Revival, Highwater String Band, Split Lip Rayfield, among others. Mostly we just like playn whenever or wherever we can.
