  • March, BDU 2011 E-Letter

During last Augusts' "OZ", 1 of the most popular acts on the fest was the Zac Harmon Band. We received many requests for them to return so………THEY ARE COMING BACK TO ....SPRINGFIELD...., MO FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT!

That's right, we are proud to announce the return of the sensational Zac Harmon Band on Friday, March 25th for the Blues Down Under Concert Series at Archie's Lounge, 1817 E. Grand, Springfield, MO 65803. Doors will open at 7pm for the 9pm show. Tickets are on sale @ Kaleidoscope & Archie's Lounge for $7.50 advance and they will be $10 at the door.

Zac continues touring world wide but found a hole in his schedule to come back for us. Check out his recent you-tube footage from the Legendary Blues Cruise on our Blues Down Under Concert Series facebook page. Fronting one of the best bands playing the Blues, you won't want to miss this show. Check him out @ www.zacharmon.com and we will see you there!

Also, on Friday, March 11th, the Bart Walker Band will be on display for the 1st set @ Cartoons Oyster Bar & Grille as we are fortunate to catch them as they pass thru town. This is not a part of the series but will be a great act to witness after seeing and hearing them in ..Memphis.. last month for the Galaxie Agency Showcase @ BB King's in ....Memphis..... Bart fronts the BB King All Stars in ....Nashville.... and also travels the world as the lead guitar player for Bo Bice. Yes, that Bo Bice who was the runner up on American Idol a few years ago.

Bart has started his own project w/the assistance of Reese Wynans (former keyboard player w/the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan) and let me tell you… this boy can SHRED on the guitar. Here's an excerpt from his current bio:

"John Lee Hooker once said 'the blues tells a story. Every line of the blues has a meaning.' Lucky for us, talented musicians still feel the need to tell that story. And it's even luckier for us that one of these musicians is Nashville-based up and coming blues man, Bart Walker. Bart grew up in Tennessee and along the way, he became an accomplished musician on a variety of instruments. After college, he moved to ....Memphis.... to pursue his dream of playing the blues. While there, his name became recognizable and he played for the likes of Ruby Wilson and ..Preston.. Shannon. He returned to ....Nashville.... in 2005 with a new feel for the blues.
In addition to his current role as lead guitarist for B.B. King's All-Stars at B.B. King's Blues Club, and American Idol's Bo Bice, he has also chalked up countless hours in the studio with Steve Gorman (Black Crows), A.J. Croce (son of Jim Croce), Bo Bice, Audly Freed. (Cry Of Love & Black Crows), and Robert Kearns (Lynyrd Skynyrd). In the live music world, he has played with Delbert McClinton, Steve Cropper, Lee Roy Parnell, Jim Peterik (from Ides of March and Survivor), Jimmy Hall, Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon (Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble), Jack Pearson and Gary Nichols. He opened For B.B. King (With the B.B. King All-stars), ..Styx.., REO
    S
peedwagon and Lynyrd Skynyrd (with Bo Bice). He also performed on the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman with Bo.
Bart Walker's new CD, "Who I
Am," is sure to help revive the blues with the younger generation, and at the same time prove to be a much-welcomed addition for those who already possess a love for the blues. The band includes: Bart Walker - guitar and vocals, Reese Wynans, Keyboards, Paul Ossola, bass and Jim Thistle, drums. There is no doubt that this artist will continue to tell the stories for many years to come. And for that, we are all grateful."

    Upcoming BDU Shows:

Friday, April 22, 2011. CD Release Party @ Lindbergs with JP Soars & the Red Hots for "More Bees With Honey" his brand new release. Up and coming local band, Luna Jamboree featuring Dave and Marion Painter's daughters, Kim & Katie, will open the show. More information next month on this special night.

Saturday, May 7, 2011 marks the return of the Anthony Gomes Blues Band to Cartoons Oyster Bar & Grille in their newly remodeled room w/expanded seating area upstairs.

Spring is in the air and it's time to get out of the house and see some GREAT LIVE MUSIC!

    December, 2010

As 2010 fades away, I’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a great holiday season on behalf of all of us involved w/this concert series.  Our hearts are filled with gratitude to all of you and your families that have supported us for the last 5 years. We hope you have the greatest holiday season of ALL TIME!

That said, we are bringing you 1 more special show to end the year and celebrate the season with outstanding musical talent. On Friday, Dec. 17th @ Cartoons Oyster Bar & Grill we are presenting not 1, but 2, of the best bands in the ....Kansas City.... area. This K/C Showcase will feature the Mary Bridget Davies Band headlining, and ....Levee.. ..Town.... opening the show. We’ll close out the night with Levee Town returning to the stage to join Mary and her band for an incredible “jam” session”,

Mary Bridget and her band are the 2011 winners of the International Blues Competition held recently in KC and will be off to represent the KC Blues Society for the competition held in Memphis, TN on Beale Street the 1st weekend of February, 2011. Some of you may remember Mary Bridget from her appearances here at the Greater Ozarks Blues Festival about 4 years ago and since that time she has been fronting Big Brother & the Holding Company on their worldwide tours (Yes, she’s the lead singer) along w/playing the role of Janis Joplin in the touring production of the play, Love, Janis! Man, she’s got some pipes! Hearing her may remind you of Janis Joplin, Etta James, Aretha Franklin,, and Chaka Khan but she also has an element all her own, She made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award nominated musical, “It Ain’t Nothin But the Blues” this past summer. This is an amazing vocalist w/a great band backing her up.

..Levee.. ..Town.. represented the KC Blues Society at the IBC in ....Memphis.... last year and made it all the way to the finals of the competition. This band is a “radiantly hot rockin' ..Americana.. foursome out of ....Kansas City..... Their music ranges from covers of Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Bob Dylan, and Big Joe Turner, to originals like Go to Heaven, The Winter song, and Forgive the Intrusion. The sound is a searing mix of traditional rock‘n’roll, blues, and rockabilly.
