Kathleen Mendoza (lead vocals),
Steve Dely (guitar),
Jon Herrmann (bass),
Eric Payne (drums)
Influences
Kathleen was raised with daily doses of Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Johnny & June Carter Cash, Elvis and Motown. Later introduced to
R&B, and the Blues, she now draws inspiration from the voices and music of Etta James, Billy Holiday, Mavis Staples, Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keys.
Kathleen has been singing the blues in and around Lansing, Michigan since the formation of her first band, Blues Xpress, in the late 90’s. Later, as Queen Kathleen & the Blues Anglers, she hosted a blues jam alongside guitarist, Frog (Frog & the Beeftones), and bass player Randy “Bird” Burgdoff (Rare Earth). Kathleen has opened for national bands including Mark Hummel, and Rod Piazza and The Mighty Flyers. In recent years she has shared the stage with national blues artists Larry McCray; Texas legend Mike Morgan and the Crawl; Memphis, Tennessee's The Daddy Mack Blues Band, and San Francisco's Tommy Castro Band.
In 2006, after years of sitting in with other bands and watching her own songs gather dust, Kathleen formed The Blues Junkies. Just a few months after the bands formation, they took second place in the 2007 CABS Blues Brawl as well as People’s Choice award. Kathleen and the Blues Junkies performed at several festivals including The Old Town Blues Fest and the Kalamazoo Festival, and headlined the Cass City Blues Festival. Now, in 2009, another "change is gonna come". With the release of the bands first album of all original material, No Way to Live, the Band Junkies are ready to kick the habit and move forward with a new name, the Kathleen Bolthouse Band - new name, same great music! Band members include: Steve Dely on guitar and vocals, Jon Herrmann on bass, and Eric Payne on drums. Steve Dely grew up in Metro Detroit where, at an early age, he was compelled to pick up the guitar and emulate the sounds he heard on the radio. Steve has played in several bands including The Hips, an eclectic band drawing from jazz, funk, rock and soul to produce its own brand of the blues and Smokestack Lightning, a straight up power-trio in which Steve stepped up as lead singer to play everything from Robert Johnson and BB King to Led Zeppelin and The Allman Brothers. Jon Herrmann can play it all - his vast musical projects include jazz, soul, rock, Celtic and folk. And, when this man lays down a blues bass solo, look out! Eric Payne, a Lansing drummer for 25 years, became a Blues Junkie in the Fall of '08 after Ted Bishop's move to Detroit. Eric has covered the drummers seat for many area bands including Smokehouse and The Big Willy band. You can also find him playing with a local jazz group, and has credits on several cd releases. With a degree in music, ERic is equally at home from punk band to pit orchestra.
The Kathleen Bolthouse Band has been together 3 years now and are showin' no sign of stoppin'. Like a sweet & spicy BBQ, their unique mix of traditional and contemporary blues, sultry ballads, soul, swing and rock will make you put on your dancin' shoes and keep you coming back for more.
