Music; literature; FELINES, especially Jungle Cat Hybrids and Siamese; birding; gardening; Eastern philosophy; ethnic foods -- e.g., Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Australian -- what would life be without Vegemite and Tim Tams? Water, coffee, and tea purist! Red Bull addict (thanks, TC). Caffeine is the foundation of the food pyramid.
Many thanks to Soerland for creating this clip!
Music
I live, sleep, and breathe music. That my taste is eclectic is an understatement. As both a classically trained musician specializing in theory and an alumna of Berklee College of Music, I enjoy the analysis of sound.
Although I'm not comfortable creating a subjective list of music I enjoy, a few musicians deserve mention for very random reasons: Steve Thorne, James Wilsey, Kathie Touin, Erik Satie, David Arnson, Tim Burness, Nadia Boulanger, Martin Orford, Tony Carey, Peter Himmelman, GishA, Tom Leonhardt, Joe Weninghoff, Hanspeter Hess, Frédéric Marcheschi, and TMQE.
My musical knowledge grew exponentially under the influence of the late Rob Leighton, the genius behind the "Imagination" program on Radio Caroline. Rob's spirit and passion for music overlooked by others will live on in my heart.
Movies
Generally pre-1950; i.e., Wuthering Heights, Blue Angel, The Bishop's Wife, Casablanca, Our Dancing Daughters, etc. Two notable exceptions are Time Stands Still and The Yellow Submarine.
Television
Haven't turned it on in years! I enjoyed Doctor Who and Torchwood via my computer's DVD drive; I haven't been able to afford the last several seasons.
Frankly, I'd far rather view art; specifically:
Books
I honestly wouldn't know where to begin, as I'm a voracious reader who enjoys all genres.
First, heartfelt thanks to Jen for leading me to Duncton Wood (and thus to William Horwood)!
Some of the authors I would recommend to others include Rainer Maria Rilke, Ram Dass, James Joyce, Thomas Hardy, William Faulkner, Hermann Hesse, Ernest Hemingway, Hans Christian Andersen, James Patterson, Sue Grafton, George Sand, Edgar Allan Poe, Annie Dillard, Wilfred Owen, Stephen Hawking, Phillippe Labro, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Larry McMurtry, Nelson DeMille, W. Edward Blain, Stephen King, Peter Straub, James Ellroy, and Justin Peter Beaney. A bit of a motley crew!
There's a wonderful anthology called Poems on the Underground in which I always find something to match my mood.
Disclaimer:
Once proofed and published, I steadfastly avoid perusing my own work ... until it's time for a new edition! Yes, I am a published editor and author.
Heroes
Odd category, this!
Rob Leighton
H.H. The Dalai Lama, Ram Dass, Sir Richard Cheese, Yusuf Islam, Geoff Mann
Inspiring folks: Jen & Steve, Marilyn Felt, Det, Victor B, and Sharon
And I miss my mom very much!

NOT about me -- Information for fans of TONY CAREY, PLANET P PROJECT, and OVER THE RAINBOW (Tony Carey era):
Fans of OVER THE RAINBOW who wish to view video clips from the 1 May 2009 show in Tokyo should visit http://www.youtube.com/katzenbenny. These clips were formerly available in my blog; however, the "embed" links have been disabled by request. Because of this, I will not use any other sources to continue posting them.
All arrangements for filming of the show were organized solely by Tony Carey with the help of his cameraman, "Katzenbenny", who generously made portions available to all of us through YouTube.
Please remember that Over The Rainbow has ONLY ONE OFFICIAL site on the web:
Fans of Tony Carey might also be interested in clips from his mini-tour of Sweden on 17 and 18 April 2009, during the break in Over The Rainbow's tour. The show in Stockholm, 18 April 2009, was again filmed by "Katzenbenny" and portions made available for all of fans to enjoy via his YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/katzenbenny. Again, these clips were formerly available in my blog; however, the "embed" links have been disabled by request. Therefore, I shall not use any other sources to continue posting them.
For both the Tokyo and the Stockholm clips, we should all give
a million thanks to Tony Carey for making the arrangements and gracious thanks to "Katzenbenny" for manning the camera and for spending so many hours making these clips available for us to enjoy!
Show in Vasteras, 17 April 2009; clips from a radio broadcast, 17 April 2009; in-store appearance, Stockholm, 18 April 2009
The official site includes a shop, which will be expanding soon! Tony's website includes a form to send e-mail to him as well as a public guestbook.
And on to "me":
Please note: If I do not respond to comments or messages as promptly as you might wish, the reason is that I almost always in the midst of multiple music-related projects. I do my best to post event invitations in my blog as early as possible. Disseminating information about live performances and/or new music releases is a priority.
Guess what? Despite the FAQs above, I'm a person in my own right, brimful of personality! ;o) I've lived quite a colorful life, and the roller coaster ride continues.
Although I hesitate to say anything specific because I dislike "pigeonholes," chances are a glance at my profile, especially the high number of my "friends," will lead you to the (correct) conclusion that I do screen music, primarily all genres of rock, for potential airplay. This involves spending an enormous amount of time tracking down the label or other distributor of an album or EP if I wish to hear more than is available on MySpace -- and in airplay quality. Please send a private message to learn how to get your music to me to review; it will be faster than waiting for me to get in touch! You may also e-mail info @ bluesridge . net. I have proven world-class ears.
Because my "long, strange trip" (apologies to the Grateful Dead), both past and present, might best be termed well off the beaten path -- somewhere in the forest, actually -- I'm literally indescribable within the context of a blurb. As a favorite author once wrote: "Some people are more normal than others."
Have a look at my interests, education, and networking; ask any questions you wish.
My mantra: "I am loving awareness." (Ram Dass)
"Do not take up music unless you would rather die than not do so." (Nadia Boulanger)
Who I'd like to meet:
My focus is networking with solo artists and bands (all genres, but primarily rock and blues), agents, venues that feature live music, independent radio stations and presenters, airplay copy distributors, and record labels.
Not one of the above?
If you're trawling for women, forget it! Seriously, I embrace all equally quirky -- and full of it --
