Bio
Following early studio success with The Vibrant Poppies' November EP, Blue made UK solo debut at The Oxford Zodiac in 2001...Formed the acclaimed London-based collaboration Bella Figa which released 'Believe in You' in 2002 achieving airplay on Sky TV. Released 8 Nocturnes (2004) and Luna Eterno (2005) and has worked with Kerry Sanson (Cardiff), Lawson Dando (Incredible String Band), The Master Chaynjis (Bristol), Tommo (London) and Andy Lunn with whom he formed the jazz duo Satsuma in early 2006. In 2009 Blue had the privilege of auditioning with Sephardi-Flamenco singer Yasmin Levy (BBC World Music Award Nominee) and has played solo in London, Milan, Barcelona and New York... 'Music for Film' (2006) is a project which goes some way to place Blue's original and highly visual guitar sound in a film environment by using short samples of speech to create atmosphere... Appeared as guitar teacher in BBC3's 'Honey We're Killing the Kids' (2007)... 'The Last Album' (2008) reasserted the mixture of speech and guitar music and featured guest vocals from Liz Coleman and Hayley di Rito. Blue conjures a sound that can ‘encompass the shared identity of a shrinking modern world, whilst retaining a timeless, melancholic classicism.’ (Michelle Strozykowski at www.suite101.com) ... Soundtrack of film 'Sold Down the River' by Tommo (Nottingham Bang Short Film Festival 2008)... Hayley di Rito and Blue Yates are 'an awesome live experience' (NoNo8, Derby). 'Piano Mechanisms' (2009) sees the development of soundtrack and new instrumental music... Recent highlights include providing music for fashion designer Kei Kagami and sharing a stage with amongst others, Kelly McCusker, formerly of Miranda Sex Garden... 21st Anniversary Re-issue of The Vibrant Poppies November EP... Film soundtrack (and part) in Tommo's 1 minute horror film 'The Clown Prosecution Service' ... Completed major canvas 'Mermaid Crucifixion' (Dec 2009)... Selected for soundtrack with Hayley di Rito for feature film 'The Kindness of Strangers' (released May 2010)... New album due for release end of 2010... European live dates included 'Madrid' in Udine (July 2010)... See forthcoming UK live dates with Hayley di Rito below... Autumn 2010... New collective project launched with the eponymous Kara's Curio album... Please leave a comment or if you'd like to get in touch do so... blueyates@email.com ... Thanks -
