Influences
Phil is always moved by Mississippi John Hurt's, Lightnin Hopkins' music.
Besides, he enjoys Eric Clapton's bluesy way of playing the guitar and hopes to shake Eric Bibb's hand.
Stephane can play tracks from The Motown, the Absolute Funk ... . Moreover he is fond of Springsteen and the E Street Band and knows how to be discreet and inventive enough to really colour our music.
The harmonicist is Fred, he is influenced by masters of blues like Jean-Jacques Milteau, Greg Szlapczynski, Vincent Bucher, Charlie Mc Coy, Junior Wells and Rice Miller.
Another Fred joined us in the beginning of 2008...He's a great Blues and Jazz Double Bass player and is well known too for his excellent playing on Guitars (Classical, Marcel Dadi, John Renbourn...) and Banjo.
Sounds Like
Faisons d’abord une halte chez Blufrog, dans la région de Metz. Ce groupe joue un blues assez roots, plutôt acoustique. Ces quatre musiciens ne proposent rien de neuf mais revisitent les standards avec une maîtrise qui force le respect. Ecoutez leur version de “Crossroads blues” (R Johnson) pour vous en convaincre.
Blufrog, à n’en pas douter, présente de vrais atouts: une voix rauque toujours dans les limites du bon goût, des guitares qui sonnent, un harmonica véloce juste ce qu’il faut. Souhaitons-leur un bel avenir. DOCTEUR BLUES MAGAZINE 31/07/2008
Parmi eux, un groupe à féliciter en particulier, première partie de la soirée blues. Le groupe Blufrog a ainsi tenu la comparaison avec les grands que sont Carl Wyatt et Popa Chubby, assurant un set des plus sympathiques. Alternant reprises et compositions, le tout ponctué par l’humour joyeux du guitariste et leader, Blufrog a su charmer le public avec un son acoustique et une voix rauque envoutante. Influencés par des standards comme Robert Johnson, Ray Charles ou encore Buddy Flett, ils laisseront un très bon souvenir de leur passage dans le festival, et on ne peut que leur souhaiter autant de réussite pour la sortie prochaine de leur premier album.
