The New BBs play old school Funk the way it used to be played.

We've come here to showcase our own Funk style.

The first tune entitled 'GROOVE WITH SAXOPHONE' features the talents of BEN TOMPSETT on alto sax.

A good friend of ours and great Sax player in his own right who goes by the name of Graham Snell summed it up when he said (talking about Ben) " in my opinion you're the most authentic funk sax player the BB's have had, I believe the appropriate phrase is 'The Bomb' ".

The second piece is called 'JUST BASS HARMONICS'. Have a listen and I'm sure you'll understand why. DAVE BAXTER wrote it in 5/4 time. UK FUNK!

The Third track showcases the New BBs playing the Old school style that we love the best!!

Here is a little something about that side of what we do.

Formed in 1988, the band has been playing live for over 17 years and has become established as one of the premiere 'Revue' acts in the country. The show pays tribute to the classic stars of Funk music... People like Mr James Brown, The Average White Band, Kool and the Gang, The Commodores, Curtis Mayfield, Maceo Parker... and then moves on to present a flavour of some of the great modern day artistes including Jocelyn Brown, Incognito, Shola Ama, Brand New Heavies...

It all really started to come together on the evening of Tuesday 12th April 1988. Rik (the original bass player) and I were watching the legendary Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention playing live at the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin. We didn't know it at the time but our friend Tosh Doll, who played sax for us throughout the mid-nineties, was also there. But we hadn't met Tosh by then. Anyway...after the gig we caught the U-Bahn home and maybe it was the buzz of just seeing a genius do his thing in front of you or even just the rhythm of the train (Cross the Tracks)...I don't know why, but something made me say it.

"We could do that!"
