It was Mid-2000. I'd never played an instrument, but listening to Tim Commerford (Rage Against The Machine; Audio Slave) made me want to pick up the bass guitar. I began to practice, as accurately as a beginner could, some of my favorite licks that Tim has laid down. Shortly after I heard my first note ring, Shay Johns asked me if i wanted to start a small band . . "just for fun". So I found myself in my first band . . learning to play and sing some of our favorite songs. I'll never forget coming to practice, thinking I was going to be playing "Name" by the Goo-Goo Dolls . . and I ended up hearing the first song that Shay and I wrote together. It was a song called "Nowhere". We decided that night that music was going to be serious . . no more covers. We were going to do something with our talents, come the day soon . . or far from now. Two years later, we dis-banded. We'll call it a serious difference in artistic view. Slipknot and Static-X had hits that were rising on the billboard charts, and on Shay's charts. I wanted to slow things down . . keep it geared towards a Puddle of Mudd grunge-ballad. Shay took his guitar, and started recording thrash metal that anybody could mosh to. I was stuck in the corner, with my bass, my voice and a head full of ideas. It felt like I still had dozens of songs swimming in my head. I couldn't do anything with my voice and my bass, so it didn't take me long to decide I needed to learn to play the guitar. I took my first guitar (a Joe Satriani Signature Series Ibanez) and started writing songs that could be "slow and pretty", but still have a meaning that holds a punch. I wanted to create a style that could be lyrically aggressive, but soothing to the ears, and soul. I wanted to show the world that BALLADS CAN KICK YOUR @..$!!! Over the last few years, Shay and I have reconciled. Our passion for music has grown, and our differences have been put aside. Our new sound was growing in our minds, and couldn't stay trapped much longer. All of our new songs created a lot of buzz in our circle . . now we offer our music to you. Robert J Kaiser
