| About B.Macy |
www. USFightLeague. com
In the rough and tumble sport of boxing, participants commonly hail from the most impoverished areas in the world, which tends to drive the immense determination it takes to make it in the brutal world of prizefighting. Brian Macy’s story started dramatically different from the average gladiator.
At age 10, Macy attended a boxing match headlined by Vincenzo Edward Pazienza at Foxwoods Resort Casino in his hometown of Ledyard, Connecticut. After watching the bloody exhibition of skill and bravery, Macy was immediately drawn to the sport. However, due to the lack of boxing gyms in southeastern Connecticut, he ventured to the Charter Oak Boxing Club in the crime-ridden Charter Oak Projects of Hartford, CT.
The early days in the gym were not easy for a young Caucasian kid from the suburbs, who was racially taunted and tested on a daily basis. These experiences built his character and boxing skill—motivation that led him to a No. 2 ranking in the National Junior Olympics, silver gloves, and a national PAL title.
During this time, Macy was also the first person to ever defeat current W.B.C Light Heavyweight Champion of the World, “Bad” Chad Dawson. Macy’s seemingly obscure location in Ledyard, CT actually worked to his advantage due to its proximity to two local, well-known casinos: Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun. Ledyard has become a hotspot for other fighters, including Hector Camacho, James Toney, Montell Griffin, Marco Antonio Barrera, Kosta Tszyu and Prince Naseem Hamed, whom Macy spent plenty of time training with. A consummate student of the game, Macy picked up many things from these fighters and their trainers, and has become an avid boxing historian.
After attending the elite Junior Olympic Training Camp in Marquette, Michigan, Macy embarked on his open career successfully in 2001, winning both a Golden Gloves title and the championship title at the Ohio State Fair that same year. In 2003, Macy made a bold move to the notorious Brownsville, Brooklyn district of New York to join the highly-respected Starret City Boxing Club. Training around world champions Luis Collazo, Travis Simms and Zab Judah on a daily basis made Macy a better fighter mentally and physically.
Residing in the Riverdale Housing Projects, Macy also gained many invaluable life experiences which gave him an insight that he otherwise would not have gained. The high-crime and drug-ridden neighborhood motivated Macy to start doing something positive by tutoring and becoming a big brother to many of the at-risk children in the area.
During this same period of time, Macy began his path as a hip hop artist and producer, which included working with many independent labels throughout the city and briefly working with the Murder Inc. record label.
Set to graduate from the University of Connecticut in January 2008, Macy has already embarked on his professional career to obtain his destiny in the ring. Recently signing a contract with CES Boxing, Macy will be making his debut this October at the Twin Rivers Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Led by his childhood hero and highly-esteemed trainer and former fighter, John “The Iceman” Scully, Macy looks to become a force to be reckoned with in the Super Middleweight division in the coming years.
