  • Bio

.. .. ..MyGen.. ..Profile Generator.. ..As told in the metrical Dindshenchas, Boann created the River Boyne. Though forbidden to by her husband, Nechtan, Boann approached the magical well of Segais (also known as the Well of Wisdom), which was surrounded by hazel trees. Nuts from the hazels were known to fall into the well, where they were eaten by the speckled salmon (who, along with hazel nuts, also embody and represent wisdom). .... Boann challenged the power of the well by walking around it counter-clockwise; this caused the waters to surge up violently and rush down to the sea, creating the River Boyne. In this catastrophe, she was swept along in the rushing waters, and lost an arm, leg and eye, and ultimately her life, in the flood. .... THE BOANN TRIO (formally Boanthrope) was formed in late 07, from the ashes of seminal Bletchley/Milton Keynes based bands Chi Champions, Modus Vivendi and Dark Hadou, primarily as an attempt to introduce improvisation into the realm of avant-garde metal. As of summer 08, the band became a fully operational unit and began to shift from the original improvised sound into a more tightly constructed, multi layered compositional form, drawing on a range of influences as diverse as Free-Jazz, Doom, The Avant-Garde and Minimalism, Ambient and World music and Spiritual Prog. The Boann Trios debut recording under their former moniker "Boanthrope" was recorded with Paul Ford in 2009, containing glimmers of choral vocals and chants, free-jazz saxophone, classical tinged pianos, Vangelis-esque synths, thunderous drums and dirge guitars across four slabs of psychedelic heavyosity. The album (artwork by Lewis McLean) is available now at the shows or through this site, just drop us an e-mail..... Recently the band has slimmed down to a three piece, the sound is instantly more immediate, more angular and more concentrated. With a new focus on brass, woodwind and keys, the band hope to shift their sound into something altogether unique. We will be playing in this incarnation for the forseeable future and plan to enter the studio with Paul Ford once again in 2010 to produce a new record. .... We have had the pleasure of playing with: Mono, Grails, Dalek, Baroness, Charles Hayward, A Storm Of Light, Minsk, Esoteric, Earthless, Pontiak, Master Musicians Of Bukkake, Manatees, Take A Worm For A Walk Week, Action Beat, The Mirimar Disaster, Mountains Became Machines, Our Man In The Bronze Age, Hired Muscle, Fordamage, Hot Bone amongst others.... .... ...... .... .. ..
