"...With its textural, intertwining improvisations for cello and Fender guitars, Boat Burning currently creates some of the Triangle's most interesting experimental sounds... Guitars flicker by one another, melodies emerging from sheets of noise and tessellating amid drums that drive or shuffle. Imagine Ash Ra Tempel palling around with Rhys Chatham's original Guitar Trio accomplices, and you get the idea. Just don't get used to the sound. Every time the band gets stable, they work to damage what they've done. 'The thing to avoid is anyone getting into their comfort zone,' says Fekete. 'So we have a dictate in the band: If anyone feels like we're doing the same thing, tear it up. Explode it.' "

"...Boat Burning is putting out some of the best (and most emotional) experimental guitar fireworks out there these days..."

Boat Burning is an experiment in live music composition using amplified guitars and chance.
Each performance is unique, as there are no predefined pieces: all compositions are created live.
Formed by Fekete and Gamble after a year-long study of Television's art-punk masterpiece "Marquee Moon", Boat Burning takes the format of dual improvising guitars and injects into it a steady stream of non-traditional tonal, textural, rhythmic and chance elements. The idea is to prolong as much as possible the moment where the creative process turns chaos into order by continuously and deliberately thwarting its culmination. The result is an extended live exploration into the often tenuous line separating chaotic and musical forms....
Boat Burning sprang from ideas bandied about in Amps Do Furnish A Room, a music collective / incubator based in Chapel Hill NC.
