Being a happily married middle age father of two with a 9 to 5 and all of the trimmings might stop most people from persuing a dream that they have had since youth, but hey life is too short.... sometimes you gotta go for it...and I guess I love it too much to quit!
Well that's my story and I am sticking to it. In case you have not stumbled upon my website at www.bobbycage.com before coming here, I will fill you in!
Well here goes…rewind back to 2003. After releasing my first independent cd “Coming Home to You”, I was invited to attend my first Fan Fair (now CMA festival) in Nashville, Tennessee. I performed in several indie showcases for a record label by the name of Row Records (Now Destiny Row) at the Nashville Palace, Douglas Corner and Hall of Fame lounge. This also included a meet and greet session at the Renaissance Hotel where where I got to meet a lot of great folks from around the world along side of todays top stars VERY EXCITING!
While in Nashville, I was also informed that due to the radio play of CHTY, I was made a full member of ASCAP! From there, I was invited to take part in the first annual Loretta Lynn songwriters festival at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The turn out was good, the weather great and her property spectacular! Her house was in a scene or two from the movie Coal Miners Daughter, but what the movie did not depict was the beautiful rolling spring with a rustic mill directly in front of her mansion and the several thousand acres of rolling hills it was located on that the songwriters in attendance roamed about freely!
Upon returning home, I learned that the title track from my first cd “Coming Home To You” was number 1 on the independent charts in France, and that another one of my songs, “My Heart Belongs To You,” was nominated for a Golden Pen award and that my music had worldwide distribution and was continuing to get good airplay through out the world .
In February of 2004, I released my second cd titled “Wrong Side Of Love” and it also received immediate airplay on local Missouri stations such as KFAV 99.9 fm, KDHX 88.1fm KWRE 770 am and countless independent and major radio stations around the world. I finally decided at this point that I really needed to concentrate on local live performances, which up to this point, I had only done sporadically so I assembled an acoustic trio and started performing several local venues performing original and cover material. Since then, I have performed at local venues such as Picasso’s coffee house, Chocolate Café, Saint Charles Coffee House, Stage Left and It’s A Grind coffee houses, Ethyl’s smokehouse restaurant, Parrot’s Sports Bar, Border’s (all bi-state locations), CD Reunion record shop, Sam Goody Records, Slackers (St. Peters) and also performed at outdoor venues such 2005 St. Charles county fair, 2004 & 2005 O’Fallon Fall Fest and Outdoor In The Park Series.
In 2003, I was asked to appear on Nashville’s Traditional Country Music Television show (TCMT), and then in March of this year, I was asked to appear on Smart Country (in Nashville on Pax cable channel and on web cast at www.smartcountry.net). These shows highlight artists’ music on major labels and up and coming newcomers. It was a honor to appear on both shows!
I have written and recorded commercials for Max’s Boot’s, Onsite Machining, Susan Benson’s intro that is played at the beginning of her show daily at 3:00pm on KFAV 99.9 FM, along with radio spots and promos for Dj’s around the world.
In 2005, I was the featured artist on the cover of “Country Music Attitude” magazine in France, I have also been featured in “The Songwriter” and have had both albums reviewed in several publications including the last at www.musicnewsnashville & www.countrystarsonline.com in 2006. May of this year, I found out my song “Days Gone By” was number 8 on the charts of American Idol’s website www.idolunderground.com. I am currently performing acoustic shows in and around my home state and midwest areas that feature not only my own Alternative/Americana originals but also classic/current covers that feature Led Zeppelin to George Jones and everything inbetween.
