December 5, 2009 - Bach on the road..... A very Halford X-mas..... Riot/Fates recap..... and the Metal Grooves MIDI Pack!
Hey all,
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Been a while since I updated you on my goings on but I thought I'd put this up now before I leave town and hit the road all the way through early February with only a Christmas / New Year's break in between.
Just shipped my brand new PDP kit to Sebastian (Bach)'s place in New Jersey for rehearsals the other day as we get ready for our upcoming European tour this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing Baz and the guys again. We haven't played together in forever and we'll be rusty I'm sure but we should have it all dialed in by the time we hit the stage in Espoo, Finland with ALICE COOPER. We also have a half dozen headline club shows in Finland, Hungary, Italy, and ending in Russia (first time ever for me!) on the 21st. I'm tempted to stay an extra day or two to do the tourist thing. Then it's three weeks in Canada with GUNS N' ROSES and DANKO JONES in January into February finishing up back in Jersey (see exact tour dates below). Last time we were out with Guns in 2006/'07 was amazing for us so this road reunion should be cool. Can't wait!
Dec. 11 - Helsinki, Finland - Espoo Arena (w/ ALICE COOPER)
Dec. 12 - Turku, Finland - Carabia
Dec. 13 - Tampere, Finland - Pakkahoune
Dec. 15 - Budapest, Hungary - Club Diesel
Dec. 17 - Bologna, Italy - Estragon
Dec. 18 - Milan, Italy - Live Club
Dec. 19 - Treviso, Italy - New Age
Dec. 20 - Rome, Italy - Alpheus
Dec. 21 - Moscow, Russia - Maximum Concert Hall
(supporting GUNS N' ROSES except where otherwise noted):
Jan. 13 - Winnipeg, MB - MTS Centre
Jan. 15 - Lloydminster, AB - Kooler (headline show)
Jan. 16 - Calgary, AB - Pengrowth Saddledome
Jan. 17 - Edmonton, AB - Rexall Place

Speaking of reunions, I went to Japan in October with the RIOT - 'Thundersteel' line-up. We did Osaka and two nights at Club Citta in Kawasaki. Japan has always been a special place for Riot and this time was no different. The fans were great and the shows went well considering we barely had any time to rehearse and couldn't do any warm-up shows stateside. As you've probably heard by now, these were our last shows with Tony Moore on vocals. There will be a statement from the band on this matter but let me just say we that plan to move on with a new vocalist and a new album in 2010. I'll also be doing a record with FATES WARNING next year. We played an exclusive show a couple of months ago headlining the ProgPower festival in Atlanta which seemed to over well. Always great to play with Jim (Matheos) and the guys. Wish we could've done a few more gigs but it wasn't in the cards this time around.
A really cool project I was involved in a few months back is 'Bobby Jarzombek Metal Grooves MIDI Pack', co-produced with Rail Jon Rogut at Sound City Studios in L.A. and due out sometime during the first quarter of 2010 from Platinum Samples. Check out the promotional video below of me playing 'Platinum Samples Joe Barresi Evil Drums for BFD' on a Yamaha DTXtreme III Special electronic drumkit. This is my second venture into MIDI world and a follow-up of sorts to my participation in the drum samples package 'Joe Barresi's Evil Drums' which came out in 2007. Go to PlatinumSamples.com for more info.
Last but not least, if you need a Christmas stocking stuffer to get yourself and/or your metalhead loved ones 'into the spirit' for the holidays - check out the 'HALFORD III - Winter Songs' release. We're metalizing a bunch of Yuletide classics, such as 'We Three Kings', 'Oh Holy Night', and 'Come All Ye Faithful' on this one, and added a few originals written by Rob and/with Roy Z. Check out the 'Get Into The Spirit' video below. This is actually the first new full-length release by the HALFORD band since 'Crucible' in 2002. We started working on it back in 2008 and finished it up at our familiar studio haunt, Sound City in L.A., over the summer. You can pick a copy or purchase a digital download from Rob's own online shop at MetalGodShop.com.
See you on the road & merry Christmas!
Bobby

______________BIOGRAPHY______________
"He's like an illusionist on the drum kit. It's effortless and entertaining, and he's just brilliant", is how Judas Priest legend Rob Halford once described his first visual encounter with San Antonio, TX born and raised percussionist BOBBY JARZOMBEK. It was a video tape submitted in the fall of 1999 that caught the eye of the man with the Golden Scream whose new project was deep into pre-production at the time but still lacked that last vital link. A few weeks later Bobby found himself at a Los Angeles, CA recording studio laying down drum tracks for what would become the Metal God's triumphant Roy Z produced return to former glory with 'Resurrection.'
Since making his recording debut with hometown boys JUGGERNAUT on the aptly titled 'Baptism Under Fire' in 1986, Bobby has played on over 2 dozen albums and toured much of the world many times over, from Europe to Australia and South America to Japan and even China. Bobby's lengthy resume includes NYC metal institution RIOT, 'anything goes' prog madmen SPASTIC INK with his brother Ron Jarzombek on guitar, touring and recording with PAIN MUSEUM, ICED EARTH and its studio off-shoot DEMONS & WIZARDS, as well as vocalists ROB ROCK, JOHN WEST, and SEBASTIAN BACH, with whom Bobby spent much of 2006 on the road opening up for the new Guns 'N Roses on an extended trans-Atlantic festival and arena run.
Other notable highlights include a massive arena tour with HALFORD alongside UK metal icons Iron Maiden and Queensryche in 2000, which included a show at New York's hallowed Madison Square Garden, jamming with Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate in London and Rudolf Schenker in Hanover, as well as delivering the goods in front of 250,000 crazed fans at Rock In Rio III in Brazil, documented on the 'Live Insurrection' double CD and the upcoming 'Live In Rio' DVD. Bobby was also voted 'No.1 Drummer 2000' by the readers of Japanese heavy metal bible Burrn! in recognition of his work on 'Resurrection.'
Bobby also caught the ears of America's premier drum publication, Modern Drummer, who called HALFORD's blazing sophomore release, 'Crucible', "a stunning slab of metal, and Bobby Jarzombek's drumming is a prime reason. On propulsive scorchers like 'Betrayal' (which begins with a dazzling mini-solo), 'Heretic' and 'Handing Out Bullets', the drummer shows astonishing power and precision. The Metal God knows how to pick 'em."SPASTIC INK's 'Ink Compatible' elicited a similar rave from Drum! Magazine: "Bobby Jarzombek is a monster to pull off this kind of dexterous drumming. He wades through the breathtaking linear patterns and riffs of 'Just A Little Bit', and the ridiculous 11/16 grooving and instrumental call-and-answers of 'Multi-Masking'."
Maybe most near and dear to Bobby's heart is 'Performance & Technique', his first ever drum instructional video, put together in 2003 over the span of several months in San Antonio and his adopted home, Los Angeles. 'P&T' spotlights Bobby's unique approach to drumming and features two free-form solos, footage of a RIOT-era drum solo performed live in Japan, and full-length performances of the Latin-flavored 'So It Ain't!' as well as 'Peppered Cancer' and 'School', two new songs co-written and recorded with Ron Jarzombek on guitar. An expanded DVD version with additional footage offering a behind-the-scenes look into other related areas, including 'Selecting Cymbals at Paiste', 'In the Studio', 'Soundchecking the Drumset', and a 'Photo Gallery', was released in early 2005 via Warner Bros. Publications and re-issued by Alfred Publishing in 2006. The same year also saw Bobby make his Hollywood movie debut providing several Dave Sardy (Slayer, Helmet) produced drum tracks for the Oscar-nominated animated feature, 'Monster House.' Bobby was also enlisted by famed producer Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age) to record drums and cymbals for sample library project, 'Platinum Samples Joe Barresi Evil Drums for BFD', released in 2007.
Coming full circle, Bobby became a member of RIOT once again when mainman Mark Reale announced the reunion of the vaunted 'Thundersteel' line-up; a new studio album is currently in the works and set for a 2010 release. Bobby also continues his association with highly acclaimed progressive metal outfit, FATES WARNING, and has lent his services to a number of other projects, most recently cutting several tracks for 'Sonic And The Black Knight - Tales of Knighthood', the latest soundtrack installment for the hugely successful 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Sega video game series.
BOBBY JARZOMBEK is endorsed by DW (Drum Workshop) / PDP (Pacific Drums and Percussion), Paiste Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks, and Evans Drumheads.
hey Bobby, just saw you post your pics and wanted to say hello and hope to see you soon. Let us know when your back in S.A. and John Cortez and I will come out.
Thank you for the add! Vic Furth, that's my favorite brand as well. Impressive video on the electronic kit. I began playing drums at 13, i just picked up the sticks and was able to play. My parents were astonished, they went out, and bought me a used set of Ludwig Original Silver Sparkle. 3 months later i found myself on stage in front of 250,000 people playing 1 song, i will never forget it, it was Color My World by Chicago, i was scared stiff but i didn't feel it till i stood up after playing to this massive audience. I played day and night when i wasn't in school i was on the drums or practice pads, the man next door would occasionally try to bribe me with $100 to stop playing for 8 hours so he could sleep, he worked nights. I didn't take the money. I knew what i wanted and it was to play but play for large scale audiences. When i was most happy was on stage. I played professionally for many many years but severe arthritis made it more and more difficult to do. I was carried off of the stage many times because i could not move my elbows, knees, feet, hands, lots of ice packs. When i was 29 i left the music business behind and would just do local gigs or set ins and studio stuff. At 39 i bought a knock around set for home and within a year i could not even play for 10 minutes anymore. I miss it like hell. I watch you and all the other guys and wish i was still there. You are awesome, i don't think my chops were as good as yours, i was best known for timing like a metronome, heavy base, solid snare and being a girl hahaha, worked for me. I sit here at home on my computer watching all the musicians that come and go, my son is in a band "Wake The Light" they are waiting to be signed any day now, so they keep saying, he plays the drums, very good at it too. I'll keep watching as you tour and hope to get some good footage on youtube. Take Care Bobby and take a piece of me out there on the stage with you :)
