About me: My name is Bobby Watson, I'm a bass player and record producer. I have produced many artists in America & Japan (where I lived for 10 years from 1985-1995). I have 1 album that has finally reached Platinum by Rene & Angela called "Street called Desire". Back in the "Rufus" touring days, I had some unforgettable experiences touring with "The Stones" "Elton John" Sly & The family Stone, Charlie Daniels band, and many other Bands & Artists of that era. I have around 15 Gold & Platinum records from working on "Rufus Feat. Chaka Khan" (of which I am the original bassist from 1974') I also have a multi-platinum (over 5 million sold) award from Michael Jackson's (Off The Wall, History) and I worked with Billy Preston as a bassist getting my first 2 gold singles for (Outa Space & Nothing from Nothing). I produced and worked on Rene & Angela's sole 4 albums and Janet Jackson's very first Album (when she was 16 years old) (A Cute baby girl)! I also produced (along with Rene & Angela as co- producers) the group "Plush" which featured Saieda Garrett as lead vocalist, for RCA Records! My Japanese albums are too numerous to mention, since I did 3/4 records a year for 10 years, opening up my own recording studio in Japan (back in the day when we used the big 2 inch reel to reel tape machines) (you old school cats know what I mean), this was a first for a foreigner living in Tokyo to have a live 24 track facility. I did produce a big hit album on a young Japanese female singer who has since become a famous actress in Japan! Rie Miyazawa! I did a remake of the David Bowie song "Fame", we called ours "Game"! I have also played bass on the biggest selling single of all time in Japan's recording history, Amuro Namie "I don't wanna cry". Last thing to mention is the 2 Grammies for "Tell Me Something Good" & Ain't Nobody, just about 10 years apart. I believe if we can get Rufus & Chaka to re-unite and record again, we could possibly get a 3rd Grammy (the academy likes us)!

Hey man, I miss you guys too. I'll be visiting out there sometime in the coming couple of months. Things are going well in Nashville, but am still keeping with friends in LA. Hope you're doing well Bobby, what's the latest project? Take care my friend.
Hey Bobby, what's new and excited out there in the land of music and movies. Hope all is well my friend, might be coming out there end of march or beginning of April. Take care!
Bobby Watson(Bass)& Tony Maiden(Guitar)were a great rhythm combo, so funky that Quincy Jones had them all over the 1st & 2nd Micheal Jackson solo albums. Groovemasters and so distinctive like all the great funk rhythm sections of that era!
Amen to that.
That was a real BAND. The grove, and sublety they added to the songs. They were more than Chaka's backups, they wrote the songs and made them sing and groove.
Some of today's Diva's would be helped so much by a real band of musicians like Rufus, rather than a just having producer and synthisizers.
some youtube comments i found. you look cool in this video.
Hey Bobby, thanks for the comment I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Life is short, but the funk in everlasting and there you stand, immortal. But, for the record 'Ain't Nuthin Like the Real Thang'! HEY TONY PICK UP THE PHONE...GOD BLESS and may 2009 be all we need it to be and more =]
