Sounds Like
Not notes!
Not patterns!
Not what you’ve learned!
Spontaneous.
Emotion.
Passion.
Who you are!
Wrong or right?
Doesn’t matter.
Thinking about what you should play
only gets in the way. - Bobby Selvaggio ----------
When you paint spring, do not paint willows, plums, peaches, or apricots, just paint spring. To paint willows, plums, peaches, or apricots is to paint willows, plums, peaches, or apricots. It is not yet painting spring. - Dogen

John Ephland from the October 2007 issue of Downbeat Jazz Magazine: "Fronting a capable and sensitive quintet, alto/soprano saxophonist Selvaggio bends the rules to his advantage.....there's a nice blend of straight ahead jazz with some Latin configurations, odd time signatures and ballads. But the arrangements make the difference.....music that's thoughtful, slyly subversive, perhaps a wee bit delicate, but hardly conventional.....3 1/2 stars"
Mark Corroto of All About Jazz: "....Is Selvaggio a better player, composer, or arranger? The answer to all three is yes, as this is a near-perfect recording...."
As said by Joe Lovano : "Bobby Selvaggio is one of the few young saxophonists on the scene today that captures you with his strong presence, focus and sound........I've known Bobby for some time and it's very exciting for me to hear his development, and see his passion and drive through the years grow and grow...."
