Sounds Like
I sound like myself. There's no other voice out there like mine, although many have influenced me. My first influence was my mother, who along with my father played in a country music band. The next voice that I most identified with was the lead singer of Air Supply, Russell Hitchcock. I already had his range, but upon hearing his voice, I started understanding more of how I could sing. My next influence would have to be Linda Ronstadt. Her versatility and musicality really inspired me and still does today. Dennis DeYoung was also a big influence in helping form my voice. Probably the last real influence I had during the time I was still finding my voice, was Steve Perry. I never appreciated him and Journey until the mid 1980's when I sang for a band called Via Satellite. We did a couple of Journey covers and since then I've been learning from Steve Perry. He is probably one of the most underrated singers and one of the best voices of all time. His way with melody and lyric inspire me each time I hear him sing. I think having all these influences has created something unique in me. It was hard for me to learn to sing. I wasn't a child prodigy but I knew I loved it, so I worked hard at learning how to do it. I'm still learning and the more I learn the better I feel about my talent and a gift that had to be developed but was no less a gift. Who knows, maybe the love of music was the gift and the talent had to be cultivated and worked on and disciplined until it became what it is today, a work in progress.
