ABOUT BOB:
Bob Frey is a singer / songwriter who has lived and performed in the Twin Cities since 1993. Older brother of acclaimed and controversial author James Frey (A Million Little Pieces, My Friend Leonard), Bob honed his craft in the bars and coffeehouses of his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as in Oxford, Ohio and Chicago. In both his solo work and with his former band The Buskers, Frey has shown himself to be a true devotee to the art of writing and performing songs. He has a unique and memorable voice that immediately draws and engages a listener, and once engaged the listener is treated to Frey’s world of social commentary, classic tales and characters ranging from the pathetic to the noble. To paraphrase one notable bard, Frey learned his song well before he started singing.
Frey has released three prior albums, and most recently a fourth, “Like A Train” recorded at Ben Durrant’s CrazyBeast studio in Northeast Minneapolis. Starting with the title track’s biting but hopeful stance, Frey moves from caustic to compassionate, his memorable melodies and smart writing supported sometimes with a full band, sometimes only with his guitar and harmonica. Quite comfortable as a solo performer, Frey also, at times, performs with different incarnations of a larger ensemble that might include cello, guitar, bass and drums. On his own, though, with his guitar, voice and harmonica, Bob Frey is a singer / songwriter who is comfortable in any venue. Bob also teaches 11th &12th graders at the Perpich Center for Arts Education.***************
FROM BOB:
born in north carolina, grew up outside of Cleveland, OH, moved to minneapolis in 1993, here ever since. i'm a teacher and a student and a workmanlike guitar player- it hasn't come easy to the extent it's come at all- and i'm a sure taker every time for a good melody with a minor chord here and there. not too prolific, but i probably have somewhere around 100 songs over the years. i put a lot of time into lyrics, though once I finish a song i usually don't try to change it much... but, a song, mine or others, changes over time and that's a cool thing to behold..... i've played a lot of different types of places, some great some not so great... i appreciate the process of writing, i love the experience / feeling of playing and singing a song... i like to do covers... i am a diehard supporter of Cleveland sports teams, Browns especially and, for that, i am deserving of your sympathy... thanks for checking out my bit of space here in the virtual world, come out to a show if you get the chance... take good care, bob
PS: MY NEW RECORD "LIKE A TRAIN" IS NOW AVAILABLE AT WWW.CDBABY.COM, ITUNES & OTHER ONLINE DISTRIBUTION SITES. IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU HEAR, PLEASE CHECK IT OUT. THANKS...

I wanted to hear more..!! Well hopefully your next gig will be longer! yea, peace & love. see yas soon bob frey
