Our Man Jenga is a new (rock) opera (type) project by Rob Collier.
The opera has three characters: Bob Jenga, Bob's wife, and Bob's secretary. We hear from each character's perspective, though all songs are sung by the same voice. (It is quickly apparent which character is singing each song.) All of the music is written for the same mixed chamber ensemble consisting of alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, violin, cello, electric guitar, electric bass, drum set, and female voice. The work lasts approximately one hour with no breaks in the music.
Synopsis:
Bob Jenga, the (fictional) creator of the (non-fictional) "edge-of-your-seat-fun" game Jenga, is obsessed with precision crafted blocks of wood. This affinity for precision crafted wood is what drives him en route to becoming a woodblock-stacking-game tycoon. It also, however, interferes with his ability to relate to other humans including his wife and his secretary. All of his relationships eventually fall apart as he withdraws further into his obsession.
